I would like to commend ALL the students for all their hard work and the beautiful job that they ALL did performing yesterday. I never knew what the expectations of Marching Band would be for my freshman son, but it has been a wonderful experience, both for him and our family! I am amazed at the dedication that they ALL give (every school). The time commitment, the critique, the sportsmanship, the dedication, the discipline and most of all the “TEAM WORK”. What “pride” and “school spirit” you all show and us as parents (including family, friends, and other peers, even Alumni) could not be more proud! This is not a school activity where any student “sits on the side lines” and doesn’t perform! I would also like to thank all the teachers, assistants, parents, and volunteers that give 110% of themselves to encourage and support “our future”!
Students: “YOU ARE OUR FUTURE! THESE ARE THE MEMORIES THAT YOU WILL ALWAYS CHERISH! NO MATTER THE RANKING….YOU ARE ALL WINNERS! THE DEDICATION YOU GIVE IS AMAZING AND THE COORDINATION IS A WHOLE OTHER STORY AND “US” PARENTS SIT AND WATCH AND GIGGLE, BECAUSE WE KNOW MOST OF US WOULD NOT HAVE THE COORDINATION AND WE IMAGINE IF WE WERE IN YOUR PLACE (tripping over our own feet)! And students….do not get any ideas……I am NOT going to exchange places with my son to even “try” what you succeed at….even if you as students would just “love” to see us parents out their practicing learning all the movement or “sets”, memorizing the music, and playing at the same time. JUST REMEMBER…WHAT AN HONOR TO PLAY AT STATES……THE SYACUSE DOME….TO ENJOY THE EXPERIENCE AND KEEP THESE MEMORIES FOREVER! “THANK YOU ALL……..FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK…..AND ALWAYS MAKING US PROUD!”

Re: Welcome to the Marching Band Forum
What great support you are giving to the students of UpState N.Y.! I grew up in Phoenix, and have been living in Louisiana for almost 30 years now. I teach High School band here and would love to see the kind of support that you provide for our area students. I was astounded with your video feeds of the are bands. Please keep up your support for the various programs, it's so important. Thanks again. Layank

Re: redhawks landing at the dome---Let me....
I'm just a Newbie band parent, so I may not know what I'm talking about, but I was told the arrangement Central Square used for their show was never used by field band before (arrangement by Nick Baratta) Several bands have used music by the great Steven Reineke, including a couple of bands besides CS this year, but CS show, "Journey to the Summit", is unique in that it is an arrangement of 3 pieces including "Pilatus, Mountain of the Dragons", "The Witch and the Saint" and "Fate of the Gods".

Re: redhawks landing at the dome---Let me....
It happens a lot. Most of the songs you hear at the Field Band shows aren't composed for that particular band. Our (as in Central Square) Wind ensemble played Mountain of the Dragons for a concert piece and really enjoyed it. (That was how the song was picked) Most schools wouldn't be able to afford a whole marching band piece to be composed just for them anyways.
A lot of shows (You can see this in a lot in the National Class) is a sting of different songs together with a theme. It being a type theme (Like Liverpool's awesome Cityscapes show does City related songs) or it being a composer (Like Central Square's Gershwin, Bernstein, and this year's Steven Reigneke). A lot of songs also can be arranged so the whole song can be the show (as in Johnstown's Mountain of the Dragons).
Deer Park and Greece both did "Music of the Night" from Phantom of the Opera in their show, but by no means they did the same show. So even if Johnstown and Central Square both did Mountain of the Dragons in their show, they are two unique, different, exciting shows. Since the Drill and Music Arrangement for the Field is different.
Sorry for the long lecture, I hope I wasn't mean. ;)

Re: redhawks landing at the dome---Let me....
Not mean at all and I, for one, thank you for the great explanation.
It was a great show and an awesome job at the Dome for all the schools performing.
I enjoyed them all and know how much hard work each and every one of those bands has put into their shows.
Have to admit my partiality to Central Square- My daughter plays trumpet. We couldn't be more proud of all of you. Your performance was spectacular!

Also a Redhawk Mom. (son is a drummer) The CS performance was powerful and moving and it was evident that the band members enjoyed playing and performing it. I think what is so impressive is the spirit of family and teamwork the band students display in their commitment to field band. I'm so glad my son chose to get off the football bench and play the field in band. We only wish he had made the decision to do it sooner, but we are thankful for the time he spent there. Congratulations CSquare and to all the field band members from each school for you are surely all champions.

Does anyone have everything that 9wsyr covered that was shown on television? I know the whole show is up here, but I would like to see the little blurbs from after the dome. Apparentally I was shown in one of them for a little bit, but I'm the only one who hasn't seen it yet!!! If not that's ok, just wondering if anyone has it taped that they could send me through e-mail or something, or if it's up on 9wsyr.com and I just didn't see it. Why doesn't anybody put their names up on here? Olivia- Melodic Percussion- Central Square HAPPY HALLOWEEN

Olivia,
I have Monday's noon newscast saved on DVR. I think that is what you are looking for. Unfortunately, I am not an electronics wiz and I have no idea how I can get it from my DVR to you. Maybe if you have a DVD recorder and someone who would know how to hook that up, you can come to my house and get it. You're welcome to come anyway just to watch it. Here's my email if you need to contact me margersinger@earthlink.net.

Re: Welcome to the Marching Band Forum
I commend Auburn for thinking outside of the box. What better show than a Horror Show, just in time for Halloween. If you look at the crowd’s reaction of Auburn's show, the fans absolutely love it because it's entertaining and fun. It gives you a different perspective of what a marching band can do – and I think the staff deserves a lot of credit. However, I think all the high school marching bands that compete throughout NYS deserve congratulations for a job well done! We all shined at the Dome on Sunday, 10/28!

Syracuse University Marching Band
Hi everyone! My name is Casie Goodwin and I am currently a member of the Syracuse University Marching Band (SUMB). I am an alumni of the Baldwinsville Marching Band, where I was drum major for the 2004-2005 season. I am currently in charge of recruitment for the SUMB, so I thought that this would be a great place to start.
It is a little known fact that you are able to participate in the SUMB if you attend any of the Syracuse area colleges. This includes SU, SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, Lemoyne College, OCC, SUNY Upstate Medical, and any other college that is close enough for you to make it to rehearsals during the week. This is a great opportunity to continue with marching band at a collegiate level. Plus, it's FREE because there is the option to take the course for no credit. We already pull in talent form many of the high schools in the NYSFBC, but we are looking to get our name out there and expand our program!
If you are interested in joining, or if you would like more information, you can email me at cmgoodwi@syr.edu and check out the website at www.subands.com!
I hope to be sending out information to all band directors in the NYSFBC in the spring, as well. Thanks and I hope to hear from you!
Casie

Re: redhawks landing at the dome---Let me....
Well stated CS Mellophone Player.
We've been attending shows for a number of years now and although the music may be the same piece, each band brings a different arrangement and interpretation to the piece. CS was totally awesome. A very moving rendition of the Steven Reigneke music.
