    Privacy Issues in the State of Florida

    Yeah, by the way, another wonderful thing about Florida - ANYTIME you put information into an online form or order magazines, order online, your information PERSONAL, phone, address, name becomes public content.  Then all the junk mail and phone calls start - I would recommend NOT DOING THE ONLINE form and sending it via snail mail.  I know it stinks but nothing here is private.  They get access to it - they sell it or forward it to whomever asks.

    I also lost $3000 from United States Administrative Services Co (aka cashback america) from a piano purchased from East Coast Piano in Jan 2005.

    Cashback America Rebates: The Real Deal - Another Burned Consumer

    My story is the same as all that preceeded. I bought my piano from East Coast Piano in New Jersey in July 2005 and went through the whole rigamarole last month to submit my final claim for $3,000. I did get the return receipt back from my certified mail claim, stamp-signed as received by one Ronald K. Gooding whoever that is, on July 1, 2008. Per the contract they have up to six weeks to pay out, but being skeptical -- despite going along with every step -- I, too, called the now disconnected number and then began my Internet search.     In this site, they reference this mysterious Ronald Gooding.

    I guess the course of action at this point is to file with the Florida Attorney General's office (per instructions earlier in this thread) and maybe with New Jersey's. What a let down and a hard lesson to learn. Like many on this thread, the deferred rebate was a way for me to justify the inflated ticket price of the merchandise.

    I'm really upset at all this news. My rebate from East Coast Piano is due to be filed next month. I WILL file it as directed and have my brother, who is an attorney, sign off on it. I doubt any of us East Coast Piano purchasers will see any money. Maybe a class action suit or joint formal complaint to NJ's AG may be the next step. There's got to be money somewhere for us to get back.

    We purchased a sewing machine from Country Stitches in East Lansing MI with the promise of a $1599.00 rebate.on 5/7/05.  All instructions were followed to  the letter.  To data, no response from either the company or Florida Attorney General (complaint filed 7/6/08.)

    I suggest everyone involved submit a complaint to the Federal Trades Commission

    I purchased from the same shop in Maitland.  It's now time for me to send all my paperwork.  How disappointing to discover all this!  Have you filed a complaint with the Attorney General?  You can go on www.myfloridalegal.com.  I plan to...  Have you contacted the merchant?

    I also bought a Phaff sewing machine from Roberts Sewing in Joilet Illinois.  I sent the rebate in July as per instructions and two days ago recieved the registared envelope back unopened. It would be nice if there was a way we could work together on this to to try to get our money back. The answer from the merchant is not at all satisfactory that the rebates were not mailed correctly. We all bought in good faith with the assurance of the merchant that this was not a scam in any way. That assurance alone should be cause for them to be held liable for not having investigated the rebates they offered further.
