    Child Support Annual Service Fee

As a recipient of child support, I just received notice from the NYS Child Support Processing Center in Albany that there is now a "federally required" annual service fee of $25.  First of all, my ex is so in arrears that I will probably never get what was "required" by him for many years! Second of all, to add insult to injury; the notice states that this annual fee is for "never assistance recipients of child support services."  They state:  "Never assistance recipients are individuals in receipt of child support services who have never received assistance under the federal Title IV-A program (currently the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program; previosly the Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) program)."  So, now I'm being penalized because I've never been on welfare.  Maybe I should drop my second job!  I sound bitter, I know; but does this seem wrong to anyone else?  Aren't our taxes enough?  What's the Real Deal?

Go figure! NYS is in such a financial downfall that it now has to target child support as a way to make money.  Never mind that it should go after the person paying the support, no the state feels it needs to go after the person collecting the support payment.  What a wonder state to live in.  I wonder what other yearly fees they will think of next.  Maybe it will be people who collect unemployment or people who collect disabilty payments.  It will never stop, and there is no way the citizens of this state can get it to stop.  We are all being help hostage!Sad

This is wrong and we need to do something about it!!We all should write our congressperson and governor....and if anything, the party paying the child support needs to be paying this fee.

Re: Child Support Annual Service Fee

I just recieved this notice as well. Why should we have to pay a fee just because weve never been on welfare. As a single mom i work over 60 hours a week and go to school and now I'm going to have to pay for them to collect my support. They cut my child off his insurance because of 50 dollars and now this!! As it is now the judge in my case only wanted to order 5 dollars a week suopport i fought a now i get 25 dollars a week. Yes it does help some but not enough in this day and age. On top of that dead beat dads can get away with running up back arrears and get what jail time how does that make us get our payments? I just  starting recieving my support payments a few months ago so i have two years of back payments to wait for,..... why cant the person paying the support pay the fee? Now i loose one payment a year to have them collect my support which was ordered by the judge to go through the unit. NYS doesnt make any sense. I have yet to find the "NEW FEDERAL LAW"!!!

Re: Child Support Annual Service Fee

This is an outrage.  The payee of child support always gets the better end of the deal.  They can not pay for months or years and get a slap on the wrist.  I recently took my ex in for an increase and by law I am supposed to receive 17%  so he showed his pay stubs which showed he made more money which should have entitled me to an increase...he cried poverty  and the judge did not feel i was entitled to an increase nice law 17% right!! Now I have to be charged to get child support I have to go through support enforcement because he does not pay otherwise he should pay this fee... We are responsible for caring for, feeding, clothing, transporting, activities, school expences etc. while the other half has no responsabilities.  I have e-mailed the governor every senator in NY and spoke to my district senators office.  I have also contacted news12.  All of our voices need to be heard enough is enough!  Save the letters you were sent everyone I have spoken to has wanted me to fax it to them!!

Re: Child Support Annual Service Fee

You most definitely do not sound bitter. When I got home yesterday from work and read this letter I almost fell out of my chair. I am disgusted enough with the whole child support process, but this is insane. First I had to miss a day of work to file with the courts, then I'm told it is my responsibility to have the non-custodial parent served the papers (which cost me more money). I am then forced to miss another day of work for my next court date. I am then "awarded" an amount of money that would not even support a pet forget about a growing school aged child. So I wait for the money to hit my account, wait some more, I kept on waiting. When I finally contact Child Support they inform me I must come back to court to file for nonpayment ( another day missed from work more money out of my pocket) which I'm then given another court date. This process is never ending nor does it benefit my child or me. Then to top it all off the Federal Government wants to take a fee from my child's money for collecting it. What is this world coming too? Guarantied the morons who passed this law are not single struggling parents trying to make ends meet. I wish I could personally give the person or persons who put this entire process together a piece of my mind. They should have to go through the process just to see how frustrating the process actually is.  So to all the people who voiced their opinions I feel your pain, anger and frustration. Call the Child Support Hotline (888-208-4485) and express it them, in additon to your local congressmen.
