Can you say class action lawsuit?  There will be lots of money paid out for this.  I hope that the word has got out to everyone so no more pets will suffer.

I wrote the above message last night. This morning we had to put our wonderful cat to sleep. It was time. We had him for 15 years and was my son's cat. He is taking it very hard. I have been in touch with the cat food company and they took my information and said they would call me back. I am heart sick about our poor cat. My prayers are with anyone who is dealing with a sick pet. It is a very helpless feeling.

I heard a terrible thing on the news tonight. They said there may be nothing done about the lost of a pet. By law, it's only considered an object. Only worth what you may have paid for it. The pet food company may not be held liable. Seems a rather harsh law. I do hope this doesn't end up being the truth. Pets mean a great deal to people.

I read that you are feeding your dog's Kibbles and Bits dog food-BEWARE!! my dogs were on that food, and suffered from seizures. My veternarian ordered me to get them off of it right away.She said that she has seen serveral cases on dogs having seizures while on that food. She then told me what ingredients to look for in aanimal food. After spending about an hour in many stores, reading the packages carefully, I picked Maximun Nutrition (sold at WalMart)My vet said that this was a nutritious food, and that I made a good choice. Luckily, this is not one of the tained brands, but I am still scared out of my mind, because my "pets"are my babies. I have two dogs and four cats-by the way the cats are on the same brand of food.

It is a fact that pets are not looked at anthing other than property by law and that if a monitary amount was to be granted, $15 to $20 may be your best result. Pets do  mean a great deal to people and they do become extended family members. As an individual who cares for several special needs cats, adding this condition to the list of health problems would be devistating to say the least.

  We have learned that the glutten products added to many cat foods is not a good thing for cats. It will cause loose bowel conditions in many situations and if you happen to be experiencing this on a regular cycle, try to remove that from the diet and see how things go. According to Vet talk, this substance clings to the digetive tract and can causes bad things to happen.

  This has opened our eyes a bit and there are other issues like free roaming cats that tend to make it more difficult to pin point where ailments such as chronic renal failure may originate. We have taken it upon our own selves to actually make our own cat food. This is not very expensive but does take a little time. Time well spent considering the time at the vets and the nasty bills that follow. Chicken is where we started. Boiled, parsley added and we will be adding yeast as well ( debittered ) as we fear a bitter taste may put them off. De-boned and placed in a blender makes a very nice food. Now, at least we know what is in it. I hope this may help someone out.

Thanks for the warning..... I have a call into my vet I'm gonna start making my own dog food, all this nonsense is scary.

Class action lawsuits in many cases, provide a nice paycheck for the lawyers involved and very little to the ones who suffered. I may have to re-educate myself on this subject but I do not think it is the silver bullet most people think it is. On top of every thing else, the person who is looking for " LOTS OF MONEY " may find themselves tied up in litigation procedings for a very long time. These type of things can go on for years. Again, ther is the going rate for the replacement for your pet. You will most likely have to provide some sort of payment slip showing what you did pay for said pet. What do you do if you adopted or donated $65 from a place like Pet-Smart for a dog or cat? Things can get complicated very fast. One other thing, does your pet come and go as he or she feels only to show up at meal time? This will be one of the first questions that will be pointed at you. It could very well feel like YOU as the pet owner is the one who needs to defend yourself. OK, go get yourself a lawyer too, do see where this could go?

 

On the ABC news site they say 1000's more pet deaths are expected from this food.  Does anyone know what kind of signs or symptoms we should be looking for or a link....... it would be nice to post some helpful info.  I have tried the #'s and i have an appointment with my vet on Mon but would like to have an idea....

I heard that the tests that were done on the food came back with nothing found.it is even puzzling the company on why the animals are dying.

If you type in cat renal failure into Google you will find all the info you wish. The Internet can be a very good learning tool. There are other search engines out there as well if you do not like to use Google.Education is a wonderful thing.

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Rat poison was found in the pet food that killed more than a dozen cats and dogs across the nation recently.

That's according to a spokeswoman for the New York state Department of Agriculture and Markets.

Jessica Chittenden isn't identifying the chemical or its source, but confirms to The Associated Press that the poison was found in tainted pet food that killed several animals and sparked a nationwide recall.

State agriculture and markets officials have scheduled a news conference for one o'clock this afternoon in Albany to release laboratory findings on pet food tested this week.

The deaths of 16 animals led to the recall of 60 (m) million cans and pouches of pet food sold throughout North America under 95 brand names and produced by Menu Foods.

I have been feeding my cat the Special Kitty food from Walmart for over a year now and she died two weeks ago.  I am so upset that I have been feeding my cat poisonous food and didn't even know it.  I also tried contacting Menu Foods and Iams and have not been able to get through.  It is very frustrating.

They are trying to minimize this by saying a dozen animals, or several were affected. Just in our neck of the woods, it sounds like there are many cases. They had many die in their own labs..

 

I had wrote the Kibbles and Bits causing seizures message, just figured out how to join. I had overheard someone in a store tonight saying that it was only store brand foods that were affected, and not better brands. There are still people out there that do not undertand the enormous number of brands that are tainted by this poison. Also, why is it that all stores are not made to pull the affected foods from the shelves, Price Chopper for one, in my area is refusing to pull the food!
