FRIENDS OF THE MONTEZUMA WETLANDS COMPLEX HOLDS BUY 1/GET 2 FOR THE REFUGE FUNDRAISING TREE AND SHRUB SALE

The Friends of the Montezuma Wetlands Complex Buy 2/Get 1 for the Refuge Fundraising Tree and Shrub Sale is now underway. The deadline for ordering is October 1, 2008. Order forms are available at the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center, the Montezuma Audubon Center and at www.friendsofmontezuma.org.

This Tree and Shrub Sale is offering RPM (Root Production Method) restoration/conservation grade native hardwood trees. These native hardwoods and shrubs are well known for their extraordinary fast growth, high survivability and earlier seed production. Read more about the advantages of RPM trees and how they are grown at www.rpmecosystems.com

RPM high quality tree and shrub seedlings come with a healthy root ball in a container, with planting and care instructions. Each tree costs only $45.00!

The proceeds from this sale will benefit the Refuge’s work to restore forest habitat to benefit cerulean warblers and other wildlife, such as wood duck and bald eagle. Cerulean warblers depend on canopy trees along waterways for feeding and nesting. The Refuge has already begun reforestation along the Cayuga Seneca Barge Canal; you can see these plantings from the Refuge’s Seneca Trail. The Refuge could use your help to continue this reforestation project, and you’ll get high quality, habitat-improving trees in the process! For every tree you buy, we can buy two for the Refuge.

Pickup will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2008 from 10AM to 4PM at the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge Offices. For additional information about the species selection and to obtain an Order Form, go to our website at www.friendsofmontezuma.org, email Andrea_VanBeusichem@fws.gov, or call 315/568-5987 ext. 228.
