2:15 PM update....

The temperature has hit 80 here in Syracuse and dew points are finally creeping up. We are 52 now and there are some 60 degree dewpoints close to Toronto. If you look out at the sky early in the afternoon you will notice the lack of the puffy cumulus clouds. That's an indication of that 'cap' that I mentioned in the original post yesterday. That is supoosed to break down over the next couple of hours so the cumulus should start to build after that.

Our mesoscale computer models seem to be keying in on storms firing near and just south of Syracuse in the 4 or 5 PM time frame then moving east. We are still in a 'slight' risk category on the Storm Prediction Center's web site. The winds aloft are not quiet as strong aloft as what was progged yesterday (10,000 feet it's 40 kts vs 60 kts) but we still have to watch any storms that do form for the possibility of strong winds and hail.

7:45 PM update.....

The cap broke around 3:30/4:00 PM and we did fire up some showers and a few thunderstorms but nothing severe. I think we were still lacking enough moisture to make things more interesting.

We'll see what happens overnight. The front is still to come through and we do have some moisture around. Stepping outside after the early shows I noticed it actually feels humid for one of the few times this spring.

Wow, it feels like a late July afternoon/evening -- hot, damp, sticky -- yuk.
Humidity is terrible this evening. I didnt miss this AT ALL!
I guess its the price we pay for two mostly-nice days in a row!

Now that the Memorial day weekend is behind us and most of us have planted our flower and vegetable gardens, I see there's frost showing up in the forecast for both tonight and Wed. night. How serious a threat is it. I have almost 100 pepper plants and close to 3 doz tomato plants in the ground here in Lyons.

I was just thinking the same thing, Sal. Just went and found all the old towels in the garage I keep for covering. Only have flowers in, but lots of 'em! I always wait until Memorial Day to plant...but that was early this year...should have waited until June 1st.
