Weather Discussion

A Chilly Start

The official low in Syracuse Tuesday morning was 29.  Actually, that is not even close to the record low of 18 set back in 1926. Here are some of the colder readings that came in this morning:

Alder Creek      24

Tully      23

Westdale      20

N. Redfield      19

Saranac Lake      15

Let us know what your low was this morning.

Watch what happens with temperatures during the day.  This dry air mass over us now will warm quickly under the influence of the strengthening April sun.  As of 9 AM we had already gained 10 degrees from our overnight low and we think we will gain another 15 or 16 degrees before the day ends. As the air stays dry the next few days we should continue to see a wide range between the high and the low.

Hey Teske.  How come you have Friday for 67 and accuweather has 78?  WSTM also is saying 72?

Why is your temp so much cooler?

My money is on Teske, accuweather ought to be renamed not-so-accuweather

I agree with you, Rick.  I've noticed a lot of other stations are way off on their temperatures.  I'd definitely go with what Jim's forcast is.

Jim, although I was amazed to hear that last nights temperatures were not a record, I was even more surprised when I read somewhere that there's been snow reported in every month of the year in Syracuse.  I'm just wondering, is that true ?

Karl,

My forecast for Friday yesterday morning was for 70 degrees Friday.  I think Dave may have lowered it for his shows last evening ;) My thinking is a front just to our north isn't quite going to make it here Friday.  Earlier in the week we were concerned about clouds and maybe a shower with that front. The shower threat late Friday looks even less likely now so that's why I think 70 is a good bet.

As far as snow is concerned, I don't think there has been snow reported in June, July and August here in Syracuse.  If something shows up in the snow total in the records for those months is more likely hail, not snow.

Looks like we may have better news for Friday and Saturday.  At Noon, I bumped up the high temps a bit based on the new NAM model that came in.  I probably would have gone even higher but I thought we should wait until some of the additional data comes in this afternoon before promising temperatures of 15 to 20 degrees above normal.  The bottom line is that warm weather will be with us into the start of the weekend.
