Storm Re-Cap

Posted 6 AM Wednesday - Our storm took a bit more southerly track, which cut down on the precipitation amounts.  But still, a general 4 to 8 inches of snow fell across central New York.  We ended up with about 6 inches officially at Hancock Airport.  I had about 5.5" in Cicero, and the "winner" was 14" in Alder Creek in eastern Oneida county.

Feel free to add  your totals, and we'll put them on the map.

Temperatures will drop into the teens and hold there through the day, with gusty winds producing wind chills in the low single digits.  We should see new snow amounts of 1 to 3 inches today.

Lake effect snows will get going tonight and continue into Thursday.  Wind directions indicate nothing too significant, with most of the lake snows coming down across the Finger Lakes and Syracuse area.

Do you know who I am?  I am kind of a big deal!  My house has rich Mahogany throughout.  So it is kind of annoying when people give double entries like this.  Just kidding everyone makes mistakes except news people like myself and Dave L.  So weatherwise today, it is still snowing.  Here is a weather question for all you Math Wizards.  If it were to snow 6.78463 inches per hour on Mon, Wed, And Fri and .09876536 of an inch per hour on Tues and Thurs.  How Many inches of snow would we have at exactly 11:59pm on Friday night?

12345 shoveling just adds more to the snow piles you are measuring to get your 'accurate' reading! Now we know why you said 11" - you're measuring where the plows have gone through!

to 6789, stop your yipping! These are friendly blogs. Have you ever heard of a microclimate where one hilltop gets 6 inches of snow and blizzard whiteout conditions and the bottom of the hill gets light drizzle and 40 degrees at the same time? Happens all the time on Tanner Hill on Rt 23 just to the east of Norwich. maybe you've heard of a microburst? When I lived in little tiny Cobleskill, we had a microburst that gave us high winds that slammed 5 inches of hail pellets against the bottom of our garage door and took down all my flowers flat. We had this just in a 4 block radius in the northwest corner of town. The rest of the town had sunshine. It made the Times Union paper in Albany, summer of 1995 or 1996. Look it up. 12345 may well have had 11" just a short distance from you. C'mon, play nice!
