Posted Wednesday Morning, 1/30/2008 - Dave Longley - An arctic cold front has moved through central New York, changing rain to snow. We'll see temperatures dropping into the upper teens by this evening. Fortunately, there isn't much moisture behind this front, so we're not expecting any snow accumulation across the area. Winds will remain strong through the day, gusting past 50 mph through the day.
Lake effect snows look like a good bet east of Lake Ontario tonight. Right now Jefferson county will be under the gun, but for a time tonight, the lake snows could sink south into northern Oswego county. Throw in the winds, which will be slowly diminishing overnight, travel could become quite difficult north of Syracuse later today and tonight.
We've been focusing on the winds. We're fine tuning our accumulation forecast for that area for tonight. More on that through the day.
