With the weather so quiet today, we're already starting to turn our attention to Monday's weather as we head back to work and school.
As Jim Teske wrote about Saturday evening, there's a potent storm system developing over the southern US. I've already seen some delays at Atlanta's Hartsfield airport due to low clouds and rain. As always, you can check the latest on flights across the country at Flightaware.com
Here's the current radar from the southern US:
With that storm developing so far to the south, it has the Gulf of Mexico available to load up on precipitation. This storm will send a big surge of moisture our way tonight and for Monday. There had been some timing issues among our computer forecast models as to when the rain from this storm would arrive. Now, they all seem to be agreeing on early tomorrow. There should be some rain to show you on Live Doppler 9 Monday morning on The Morning News. Here's a look at the precipitation forecast for the 24 hour period from 7 AM Monday - 7 AM Tuesday. The blue over central New York indicates in excess of an inch of rainfall in that 24-hour period.
Behind this system, more cold air will come in changing any precipitation over to snow showers Tuesday. By then though, the majority of the precipitation will already have moved out of central New York.
