A large storm system parked over the Great Lakes this morning is circulating colder air across the Great Lakes. The result...lake effect precipitation. The precipitation has been a mix of rain and higher elevation wet snow across western New York, although Erie, PA and Dunkirk, NY have been reporting snow, and as of 9 AM, Rochester reported a mix of rain and snow.
Winds in the lower atmosphere will be southwesterly, meaning the lake effect precipitation off of Lake Ontario will be WAY to the north of us in the St. Lawrence Valley. We'll get clipped with some rain showers off of Lake Erie this afternoon. Here's a shot of the latest image from the NWS BUF radar.
Tonight, winds will start to shift to a more westerly direction, meaning a few more showers off of Lake Erie for us, and snow off of Lake Ontario. Across the Tug Hill plateau, several inches of snow are possible.
We should all see some snowflakes for the morning commute Wednesday.
More to come through the day
