I have been looking for a LEGITIMATE home based business that wouldn't break the bank for years now. NO LUCK. NOPE, ALL SCAMS, they ask you for money to enroll in their "program". They might send you a link to a web site if you got sucked into giving them money. BAD IDEA! Don't send any money! If it sounds too good to be true...it IS!

I am a little bit late coming into this discussion, but I just want to point out that it is more than possible to work from home without taking part in a “work-at-home offer.”  I work from home and have been doing so for two years now.

Most of the “offers” and some of the “opportunities,” that you will find online are scams, but there are work-at-home “jobs,” out there.  I think it is important to know that there is a difference.

For starters, anyone can make use of a skill that they have.  Personally, I am a web content writer (I write content that appears on websites).  If someone specializes in web design or internet marketing, they can also make money doing it online and from home.  Of course, it takes a lot of hard work and research to get started, especially when starting your own business, but it is more than possible to do.  These types of opportunities also have low or no startup costs.  Often all that is needed is a computer, internet access, skill, and patience.

Also, those looking to work from home should examine companies that hire home-based workers. Often times, these are jobs where you answer telephone calls from customers looking to place an order.  I know that 1-800 Flowers hires home based workers and other companies do too.  Many of the home shopping networks rely on home based workers, although they typically use third party companies or websites to hire their workers, so it can sometimes be more difficult to find open positions.
