S.U. Orange

Iowa Runs Over 'Cuse 35 - 0

The Orange lost to the Iowa Hawkeyes 35-0, on Saturday in front of a sellout crowd of 70,585.

Iowa (2-0) rolled up 408 yards of total offense, scoring four touchdowns in the first half.

Quarterback Andrew Robinson, making his second start was 7-for-20 for 79 yards. Junior Curtis Brinkley led the Orange ground game with 36 yards on 12 carries.

The Orange had a chance to get on the scoreboard in the second quarter after a Joe Fields’ interception, but Patrick Shadle’s 39-yard field goal attempt was blocked by Kenny Iwebema. Iwebema also blocked an SU field goal try in the third quarter.

Fans, what do you think about the team's effort?

I think Iowa looked really good tonight.  The first half they were clicking in almost every aspect of the game.  I'm not sure if Syracuse just really really sucks, or if Iowa might be a potentially real good team this season.  Once the Iowa first team went out, Syracuse started to look better and actually got some 1st downs.

The Offensive line is horrendous. 30 rushes for 24 yards ! Which adds up to a paltry .8 yards per rush. WOW  Greg Robinson does not seem capable of head coaching duties and managing an entire team. There was not one good thing this team could take out of that game to build on. I just hope we beat Buffalo so at least we can say were the best team in the State!  3-8 at best for this squad....Buy Robinson's contract out and bring in Tom Coughlin!

I thought he was a defensive minded coach. The tackling was appalling and all fundamentals went out the window. I'm not one to throw a coach under the bus but when a team plays this bad it's not always a lack of talent. This kids are not being taught the game properly. And forget last years game against Illinois - they will be a much improved team so look for more of the same this weekend at the Dome...

Whew - 103 total yards of offense?  Holy cow!  I'm glad I didn't watch the game.

Syracuse had one yard of total offense in the first half, and didn't pick up its initial first down until six minutes into the third quarter!  By then, the first team from Iowa was resting on the sidelines, already up 28-0.

And I was thinking about getting season tickets.

I grew up watching SU football and remember some of the great teams they put on the field. Its a shame that they are now and also ran team. I live on the west coast now but still follow them and hope that they do get better. Yes perhaps a coach change would be the best for all

this would get fixed real quick if  NO ONE showed up for the next home game. money talks!!!!!!!
i guess the season ticket holder hate to waste the money by not going but those are probably the same people who want to" give them a chance" maybe the season ticket holders could donate their tickets to some pop warner teams so that their coaches could show them how NOT to play.

all of the high priced advertising that came in with the new ad and coaching team cant hide the fact that the folks at su were sold a bill of goods that really is that bad, how much longer are we gonna  have to be humilliated by this bunch of  nabobs?  su needs new leadership in the football dept, and the sooner the better, that whats here is not accepable, and the record tells the horrible truth.  ship daryl gross and his coach back to the california surf and bring back coach p or coach mac for the remainder opf the season PLEASE!!!!!

The SU football team has become an embarrassment to both the University and the City of Syracuse. It's one thing to lose competitively and another to be so futile in losing. Coach R should be put on notice, that if no improvement is shown, that he will no longer be the head coach at Syracuse at the end of the year. And yes, the AD shares some of the blame as well. SU is a laughing joke among sports commentators and fans throughout the country. If they are serious about making SU a top football team, then serious and drastic action is needed now.

remember when everyone was running pasqualoni  out of town. nobody liked him; they ran his offensive coordinator  out a year earlier; the most prolific offense syracuse ever had; the best record under coach p  that syracuse ever had in there so so history; you people deserve what you get. a head coach who was an assistant coach for 30 years; ever wonder why he was an assistant coach all that time and never a head coach; duhhhh; look at his results here; thats your answer; and gross, well i think his name speaks for himself ; he was never the architect for those southern cal teams; totally controlled by pete carroll. dump both before s u  becomes a ghost town; and heres to the architect for the whole mess; bud poliquin , the most cancerous ,destructive human being,i think , in this area. he pushed and wrongfully attacked coach p in the paper, and most of you bought it. he glorified the hiring of gross and robinson as saviors of syracuse. actually, he predicted winning seasons and  sellouts; hes a poisonous writer who nver prints the truth or the facts; and the post standard is responsible for this so called writer, who also prints lies about the yankees and any teamor event that doesnt suit this red sox fan; even his human interests storys are not anything relating to the betterment of humans; just blowing his own horn; so you see,  terrible writers poor decisions of hiring ; su is in horrific shape which is crippling the community ; get smart, drive out gross, robinson, and poliquin, and thrive again with respectibility and good recruiting

give the kids a break, they do what the coaches tell them to do. the coaching on this team is pathetic! the kids don't seem motivated during games, and make mental mistakes at very crucial times. who wants to come to this dead end town to play football in a dome that is outdated? we need to drop down to the subdivision in ncaa football, but that may not even translate into wins. i bleed orange, and hope things change but fear things will not. to the players, keep your heads up and keep fighting because that is all us REAL fans  expect.

I think Jon is right. With Coach P, we had some respectibility. Even at the end, when he was treated shamefully, he showed class. He was railroaded out of town by the likes of Poliquin and Axman (radio talk show guy). I remember Boeheim taking exception to the whole lynching. But if you're going to replace somebody with substance, you don't go out and get a b.s. artist like 'Captain Cliche' (Coach R). Did anybody really look at his resume? When he was a defensive coordinator at KC, the defense stunk. All you get out of Cantor, Gross, and Coach R are lines of b.s., soundbites and cliches that mean nothing, and no substance.

Looking at S.U. football today reminds me of two things. 1. How upset I was moving to Syracuse in 1974 and moving into a house next door to then coach Frank (Balloney) Maloney who could not make them win then. I said to my father when we moved up from Philadelphia did he commit  a crime or do some kind of henous act to have us banished to what I still refer to as Santa's outhouse. Syracuse is like a white collar ghetto, That stays white and COLD from Sept-July.
2. I am thankfull that I took it upon myself to move from Syracuse in 1998 and now I enjoy college football as an Arizona State fan 2-0 thus far able to play with the big dogs of the Pacific 10 conference, Like Washington who whooped your buts good!

glad your gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Syracuse is alot more than SU football. How many apples orchards do you have in Sunny arizona? How big are your pumpkins out there? I for one love our 4 seasons each one brings out the best of the northeast. As far as the "white collar ghetto" what would you call Philly? We can complain about OUR TEAM you can mind your own business. Sit in your air conditioned house and watch YOUR football team.  we will take care of ours. Please don't come back here we don't need you.
