Report: Hopkins to Replace Boeheim when he Retires

Syracuse assistant basketball coach Mike Hopkins will be officially named Jim Boheim’s successor as head coach, sources are telling ESPN.

Hopkins played for Jim Boeheim and just finished his 12th season as an assistant coach.
ESPN says there is no timetable for Hopkins to replace Boeheim, but the University finally have reached an agreement to put a succession plan in writing. The move has reportedly been in the works for months, but final details are being worked out in assistant coach Hopkins' current contract.

Good move for the team and recruiting? Discuss...

What about Bernie Fine ? He has a great mind for the game and his recruting style starts when kids are a freshmen in high school. Then they send out little boy Mike to follow up. Another GROSS mistake by SU

Mike Hopkins is an excellent choice to succeed Jim Boeheim. He has been well groomed, and understands the game of basketball from a players position, as well as an assistant coach, sound familiar, not to mention his ability to recruit quality players for the SU program. Now all we need, when the time comes, is a Bernie Fine type assistant to compliment his staff, and who knows, maybe another national championship will emerge out of this!!!? Coach Boeheim, and Coach Fine, have always had the ability to recognize great talent, and this is just another example of that.

It was pretty much understood... but great move... I don't think Fine is head coach material... Hop's easy going with the press... a good guy + he's young. Also it gives stability to the program for the long run... The thinking here is that Hop can be the FACE at SU for the next 15-20 years like Jimmy B was. I'm on board... he's a great recruiter... relates to the young kids... SU is in good shape.

Now if only we could get a football coach.....

I think Mike has paid his dues and deserves this. I think he'll make a fine coach. The sooner you get ol' "whine baby chicken neck" out of there and Mike on board, the better!

Mike is a much better coach at motivating the players than Bernie. We have watched a lot of very talented forwards come in and just kind of cruise along and never play their best game.
Mike should give the program a good boost. The sooner the better in my book.
