The Yankees, who will move into their new Yankee Stadium for the 2009 baseball season, are said to be completely on board with having the NHL close the 85-year-old original.

  • NFL Network Spat Costing NFL Fans Games

The NFL and dozens of cable companies across the country, including Time Warner Cable, have been in a dispute going on two years now. Its over the NFL Network. The NFL wants it put on standard cable... the cable companies want it to be on a digital tier that fans would pay for if they wanted it.

The argument goes much deeper than that. (NFL's Take; Time Warner's Thoughts).

  • Baseball's Home Run King Barry Bonds Indicted on Perjury Charges

A grand jury in San Francisco has indicted baseball slugger Barry Bonds on perjury and obstruction of justice charges.

The indictment follows a four-year federal probe into whether Bonds lied to the grand jury looking into steroid abuse by athletes.

  • ARod Says He Wants to Remain in the Bronx

Not being a Yankee fan myself, its hard to tell how fans will react to the news Alex Rodriguez
wants to remain in the Bronx.

After opting out of his contract last month, Alex Rodriguez has had a change of heart and wants to remain in pinstripes. The third baseman met with Yankees executives Wednesday and while his longtime agent Scott Boras was not involved in the meeting, he said he's trying to work out a deal with the Yankees.

  • Should Baseball Have Instant Replay

For the first time Tuesday, baseball general managers recommended instant replay be used to help umpires make difficult decisions.

The recommendation, by a 25-5 vote, would be limited to boundary calls... like if a ball went fair or foul, or if a fan intefered with a play.

Baseball commissioner Bud Selig opposes the use of replays, because he believes it would cause long delays in the game, but said last month he was willing to let GMs examine the issue.

What's your take on the issue? Should baseball have instant replay, and what type of system do you think they should have (playoffs only, everything)?

  • Girardi to Replace Torre as Manager?

The New York Yankees reportedly have offered Joe Girardi the job to succeed Joe Torre as manager, according to Steve Mandell, Girardi's agent. Girardi is expected to take the job.

Girardi caught for the Yankees from 1996-99, served as a bench coach in 2005, then managed the Marlins the following year and was NL manager of the year. He kept a young team in contention until September, then was fired, apparently for clashing with the Florida Marlins owner.

Girardi was the first person to interview to replace Torre. He spent about five hours with the Yankees' baseball operations staff last week, and an hour with owner George Steinbrenner and his sons Hank and Hal.

Girardi is currently an announcer for the Yankees and the FOX Network.

  • Red Sox Win World Series; 2nd in Three Years

For the second time in four years, the Boston Red Sox are at the top of the baseball world. The Red Sox managed to hold on to a 4-3 win to finish their second World Series sweep in four seasons.

After going 86 years without a World Series title, the Red Sox now have won two of the last four. At least in this century, the Red Sox have won more World Series than the Yankees (Sox '04, 07; Yankees '00).

For Yankee fans, how do you feel about this. Obviously, its been a few years since the team has been in the World Series, and with a new manager about to take over, things are different than they were eleven years ago, when their World Series run began. Leave your comments below.

  • Bills first MNF Appearance in 13 years; Stunning Defeat

Tony Romo is nothing if not resilient. And because he didn't let four interceptions in the first half, two returned for touchdowns, destroy his night, the Dallas Cowboys pulled off a stunning comeback victory.

The Cowboys scored nine points in the final 20 seconds Monday night, with Nick Folk's 53-yard field goal as time expired giving them an improbable 25-24 win over the Buffalo Bills.

It was one of the types of football endings that will go down in history. Here in the newsroom, a crowd of 12 people gathered around a tv, following the 11pm show, shouting so loudly, you'd think the folks in Orchard Park could hear us.

For those of you that did watch, what's your take on the defeat? Leave your comments below.

  • Bonds Baseball to have an Asterisk

The ball Barry Bonds hit for his record-breaking 756th home run will be branded with an asterisk and sent to the Baseball Hall of Fame, its owner said Wednesday.

Fashion designer Marc Ecko, who bought the ball in an online auction, set up a Web site for fans to vote on the ball's fate, and the decision to brand it won out over the other options, sending it to the museum unblemished or launching it into space.

What do you think of the decision?
  • Giants Letting Barry Bonds Go

In a statement on his website Friday night, Barry Bonds said the San Francisco Giants will not be bringing him back to play in 2008.

It was just this season that Bonds became the all-time home run leader.  But this season has not been successful for the Giants.

In the website entry, Bonds said, "I would have loved nothing more than to retire as a Giant."  He says he plans on finding a new team for next season.

  • Coach Apologizes for "Videotaping" Commotion

Patriots coach Bill Belichick is apologizing for the commotion surrounding his team following accusations the club spied on the New York Jets during Sunday's season-opening victory.

Belichick says in a written statement that he spoke with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell  this week about a "videotaping procedure." He says the Pats have not yet been notified of the league's ruling.

Belichick refused to answer questions about the accusations at a morning news conference.

A league spokesman says an investigation is under way but denies an ESPN.com report that Goodell has determined the Patriots violated league rules when they videotaped defensive signals by the Jets' coaches.

NFL security confiscated a video camera and tape from a Patriots employee during New England's 38-14 victory. The employee was accused of aiming his camera at the Jets' defensive coaches as they signaled to players on the field.

Jason Elam hit a 42-yard field goal just before time ran out to lift the Denver Broncos to a 15-14 victory over the Buffalo Bills in their opener Sunday.

Elam, who had missed two field goals earlier, almost didn't have a chance to make up for his misses. The Broncos were out of timeouts when Jay Cutler hit Javon Walker for an 11-yard catch with 14 seconds left.

Rather than spiking the ball, the Broncos' field-goal unit rushed out on the field and got the snap off just in time, spoiling what had been an opening day victory for the Bills.

The Bills got a solid performance from their dominant special teams unit, which produced the game-opening touchdown. But the offense appeared to be ineffective at times.

Buffalo managed just 184 yards of offense and 13 first downs.
