Bonds Baseball to have an Asterisk

The ball Barry Bonds hit for his record-breaking 756th home run will be branded with an asterisk and sent to the Baseball Hall of Fame, its owner said Wednesday.

Fashion designer Marc Ecko, who bought the ball in an online auction, set up a Web site for fans to vote on the ball's fate, and the decision to brand it won out over the other options, sending it to the museum unblemished or launching it into space.

What do you think of the decision?

If Bonds had any decency and honor, he would have been man enough to stop short of the record and not caused all this turmoil. But Bonds has always been about Bonds and I can't think of a more self centered person. I think the ball belongs in the Hall of Fame and so do the astericks. Acknowledge the record, but note how he cheated to achieve it.

The asterix would have more meaning coming from the baseball commish not a fashion designer.  Still funny though.  I would have shot the ball into space.

I LOOK AT BASEBALL THEY ALLOWED ALL THIS TIEM HAPPEN.  ANYWAY, IT TAKES
A GREAT TALENT TO HIT THE BALL.NOT ALL CAN DO THIS.  HE STILL IS A GOLD GLOVER AND A GREAT OUTFIELDER.  162 GAME SEASON AND SPEND OVER 20 YEARS IN BASBALL OR FOR THAT MATTER ANY PRO SPORT.  HE STILL HIT THE BALL AND IF NO INJURIES OCCURED OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS. HE WOULD HAVE MORE..THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD NOT GET INVOLVED.  WHAT ABOUT A-ROD HES IS AT 53 HOMERUNS WHY IS HE NOT TESTED?  BY THE WAY, IF BASEBALL IS CONCERNED.THEN WHY DON'T THEY TEST ALL THE TIME AND EVERY PLAYER WEEKLY? HYPOCRITES THE COMMISIONER IS A COWARD.

doctor 444, you obviously have no integrity or honor.  first of all it is proven already that he is a cheat on steroids for 12 years, the only thing holding his public dishonor and jailtime off is his lying scumbag trainer best freind whos been in jail for contempt because he wont tell the truth ; is bonds is truly innocent anderson could have said so but he refuses to speak the truth trhat bonds is a slime, cheating, drug attic whos racist attitude is subhuman and deserving of the death penalty. its documented that the adminisrtration of baseball had banned steroids in 1990 but the union for the players rejected the testing of it for years. all documented facts.to make a bonehead accusation about alex would indicate you are a boston fan or an idiot; probably both. do you have any clue how steroids increase bat speed and strength; bonds body in pictures has the ripple effect of steroids ; ive seen this in the gym. alex does not have this, so go kiss ortiz for me; jes hispanic right; i keep confusing him with [ricardo motalban]

What a discrace...  What about Barry's enitre career.  Remember that it's #756.  Not #100, 200, 300, 400, or even 500.  756!!!!!!  Does Mark Ecko have any idea what it's like to hit a baseball.  He's a frieken fashion designer.  Remember, Bonds has been a player in the Bigs for 20+ years.  He's put in years and years of hard work and dedication.  Who is Mark Ecko to foster this sort of thing.  It is common knowledge, even though it hasn't been proven, that Barry obviously used HGH, but whether or not the asterisk is branded on the ball isn't going to change that.  It simply doesn't need to happen. Shouldn't Mark Mgwire, who hit #62, have an asterisk branded on his ball too.  This man Ecko obviously has absolutely no respect for the game of baseball or it's players.  By going through with this he's disgracing a game that our country has cherished for almost two centuries.  Should we burn the American flag because we aren't too fond of President Bush? Barry shouldn't  be singled out.  Performance enhancing drugs have been in sports for years... What about football, track, body building, cycling... Actually, I could probably list every major/semi-major sport except for the exception of golf, but even then who knows?  But a fashion designer can't even comprehend what I'm talking about right now. Does he have any idea about sport; obviously not  if he's going to do something as lowly as this...  Ecko's next feat should be to buy Marion Jones shoes next.  Or maybe Lance Armstrong's bike, or Romonowski's helmet.    Everything comes back to you in this life and I hope that Mr. Ecko understands that, because I can guarantee he's gonna feel the guilt after he hands the ball over to Cooperstown.

1. Bonds accomplished what nobody else has.  He is far from the only athlete to ever use steroids and nobody else has had records etc. taken away or marked with an asterick.  If the use of steroids takes away from the sport, does marking the ball do anything different?
2. Joh ch, lighten up dude, it's a sports blog and you're asking for the government to fry a guy??? Too much drug use for you???

no...1.) Bonds cheated. Thats first and foremost.

2.) I dont think anyone should lighten up on the subject, it is the biggest disgrace for the greatest game ever played. Everyone associated with the mockery of the greatest record in sports; the home run record, should be ashamed of themselves.

Bonds has no integrity, the only thing that will make me hate him more than i do right now is when hes broke and no one cares about him in 5 years and he writes the book of how he cheated the greatest game in the history of sports.

What most of you fail to realize is that sure there are performance enhancing drugs im sure in every sport in the world. But if you compare the impact of the drug compared to the game none compare of what it does to a baseball player. Football players are huge but the impact athletes e.g. QB RB WR, steroids would have a negative impact on their games. Look where David Boston is now, he went from being a pro-bowler to a nobody, one year after he shockingly got humongous.  Sure Bonds probably has some of the best hand eye coordination in the history of sports, and make no mistake he "was" a great ball player. But he took drugs to prolong a career that would not have lasted as long as it did and surely would not have produced what it did.

Shame on you Barry Bonds. With the baseball family he had surrounding him, him and his high pitched voice should have known better.

A side note involving the fashion designer who bought the ball, good for you. No one inside the game would have had the testicular fortitude to do what you did. Spending your own money for a beloved game to insure future generations would have to ask why the ball has a red asterik on it when they travel through the shrine in Cooperstown known as the Hall. And before you knock Ecko, make sure you look that he has been a generous donator to several organizations all around the world protecting endangered species like the White Rhino.

If Mark Ecko bought the ball it is his right to do what he wants.  Tell the Hall of Fame not to take it then.  I am sick of all the people saying that "EVERYONE ELSE WAS DOING IT".  THEN THEY CHEATED THE GAME AS WELL!!!!!!  Did Aaron or Maris use performance drugs NO!!!!!!!  They did it the right way. Hard work and dedication.  Bonds was a great player BEFORE he chose to use drugs.  As far as I am concerned Maris and Aaron still hold the record.

For all of you retards who can't spell, the word is "asterisk". Hey HOFFMIRE, you wrote, "What about Barry's enitre career. He's put in years and years of hard work and dedication."

So, if there was a great marathon runner who had won several races and then, as his body was failing, he took a subway during a race and ended up winning that he should be applauded? You moron!! When Bonds played with Pittsburgh, I thought he was the best player in the game. He, however was not good enough to be the alltime home run leader. He cheated to become so. I lost all respect for him.

And what does the guy being a fashion designer have anything to do with his ability to recognize truth?? The truth is that Bonds is a scumbag cheater.

Oh, and btw, McGwire, does also deserve an asterisk, IMHO, because he was a cheater as well.

Bonds is one of the best of all times, like it or not! Fact is, even the pitchers were taking enhancers as well. They still can't shut him down.Just think how many homeruns he would have if you take away all those intentional walks. The media is as much to blame as anyone because Bonds has always shunned them. And they have made sure that anything negative has been exploited and credit towards Bonds has been limited. The homerun ball belongs in Cooperstown, as a record setter, not as a joke from some clown who designs clothes.

randy, bonds would have hit 200 less home runs without steroids. the intentional walks were[ cause and effect] they would not have  made a difference if his body aged accordingly; he was a very good plkayer before steriods; but he always was a black racist and rude to children except black ones. also this is documented as truth; not illusion which you see with; bad black role models are going down the tubes , time for everybody to be part of the human[race ] again.

Anyone that has ever played baseball at a higher level knows that hitting a baseball is timing and hand eye coordination. Bonds, was hitting them out of the park, way before he even touched steroids. No, doubt the best hitter of all time.

Having played baseball at a higher level, I know for a fact that probably 90% of players use performance enhancing drugs. It has been part of the game. Coaches and managers have known about this.  You idiot fashion designers and those who know nothing about the game have no room to single out Barry. Is it because he's good? Broke the record? You wouldn't make such a big deal out of all this if he was average. The fact is, he's the best hitter of all time. He has spent more time in the cages, hitting off the tee and paying the price to be best. It's to bad a bunch of haters can't swallow that.
