Food Decisions Based on Sex?

Have you thought about what you're going to have for dinner tonight? If men are doing the planning, they'll most likely come up with a much different meal than women.

A new study is revealing the eating habits of adults.

The study confirms conventional wisdom…Men are likely to eat meat and frozen pizza while women eat more fruits and vegetables.

What do you think? Leave your comments below.

While this may be true in other parts of the country, I do not believe this is true for CNY. From my observation, 75% of the women in their 30's are grossly overweight. I have seen women with children tagging along with them and the children are by no means an average weight. When a woman who is as wide as she is high, I sincerely doubt that she  is living on veggies, fruits and yougurt. Children generally follow suit as they see the mother eat food that is loaded with fats and carbs, etc. Just my opinion from what I see around me everywhere. Today's society would prefer to stay indoors, play on the computer all day, do no housework, cheat on their husbands while at the keyboard and EAT. We live in a non-movement world. Sad thing is the children copy what they see. What is wrong with that picture?

Women who are morbidly obese have husbands who are morbidly obese. And it's because in most households, women are responsible for cooking and grocery shopping (yes, even in TODAY'S society!) Most women cook what their husbands and kids like to eat, whether or not it's healthy or has any nutritional value.

If you look closely, it's the men who are responsible for the obesity of this nation and our insistence on a meat and potatoes diet with little or no exercise. Women have some accountability also, but in most cases they are subjugated by their husbands and subscribe to the patriarchal influences that the media and advertisements portray that tell women that it's their job to make their husbands and kids happy.

ACitizen, I couldn't agree more with you.  CNY is NOT like the rest of the country and I HAVE lived and worked in other parts of the country.  I work in an office building downtown and see hordes of women, every morning, standing out on the sidewalk smoking and sucking down 96oz frapaccinos.  In fact I would say 90% of the women in my building are severly obese, but at least they have a job.  I would also estimate that a higher percentage of men in CNY are more obese than the rest of the country, but there is no way CNY women live healthier than the men.

average weight of the women where I work?  250 easy.  Of those, about a third have death rattle cancer cough from cigarettes.  Its a health train wreck.  But lets face it, most people, men and women, are fat and lazy and think the chicken sandwich at mickey d's is health food.

one more observation:  I've been going to a gym 4 days/ week for 5 years now and the regular exercisers that do it for the long haul are men, without exception.  The women join and go hard for a week or two and then they disappear, never to be seen again!!

ummm Adam? What are you TALKING ABOUT???  The media consistently portrays women as smart and sophisticated, while men are portrayed as dimwitted bumbling idiots...

I personally don't understand how people can let themselves get into such horrible physical condition.  Aren't they disgusted when they look at themselves in the mirror?  It takes about 10 minutes to prepare a decent, healthy lunch in the morning...but fatties would rather sleep that extra 10 minutes and pick up some fast "food" during their lunch break...really builds up the image of the fat, gluttonous American as we are perceived abroad.  Exercise?  Forget about it.  Nobody has the "time" anymore...but somehow they find the time to watch American Idol and the other mind-numbing garbage on television these days.

where do you people live; [FATLAND]. i see a variety if shapes and sizes in this county; in our home i shop and share the cooking with my wife. a balanced meal without the potatoes we have ;[ once a day. thats it. i also drink 10 -20 cups of water and coffee per day. walking is essential; but we share ideas onwhat we cook daily. usually a mix of veges, and meat. fish also is part of the weekly menu. im 6foot 3 inches and weigh 230. my wife is 5 foot 8 inches and 128; we both look 40-43 years old and are 10 - 13 years older; sometimes genetics plays a large part in your weight and appearence ; but cooperatively between us we decide what we eat at home; mostly one meal a day

I read all your comments and as an overweight woman. I do not take offense as this is your view and you have a right to express it.  I personally feel it is not only genetics but
society in general too. We are so grossly blessed with everything.  I do not eat fast food either.  I think more food companies could do a heck of a lot better in the choices they make in creating these products. Our food is pumped so much with extra things it is a joke. If you want to eat healthier you have to pay more for the natural things. My husband can only eat like 10 things in a grocery store. He is food sensitive to additives and preservatives shopping for him is a pain staking thing. But I blame no one really but the person eating the food. I love food to much and I have struggled all my like with weight.  So it is easy to put on but hard to take off.  And I check my labels to make sure that I am not eating a lot of fat.  But the sugars and carbs in the food are what is killing us.  That and the real lack of exercise. So I do agree with some of the prior comments. It's no one's fault really but our own.

I do realize that genetics may play some part . For example Hyper Thyroid ,
( not sure if that is genetic) But as Americans we tend to want to get the most for our money . Take size of portions we get at restaurants . Super size , Triple burger , Double scoop ! Admittedly I love food also . Portion amount is a huge part . I try eating 5 small portions a day then when dinner/ lunch hits your not starving . I'm not any way a expert this works for me . I would love to pound a whole pizza but I'll save some for breakfast !! Also excuse me for any spelling errors I know how some people are experts in grammer.

First, the study provides a general outlook, not a specific or localized one, on food preferences.  It did not address quantity consumed, the major contributor to our national fatness.  I've done a lot of traveling across the country, and, sorry, ACitizen and CEC, people and their eating habits are similar to CNY in most places.  What varies is the amount of outdoor time people spend in active pursuits.  Let's face it, Southern California is rarely buried under 3-4 ft. of snow...mud, perhaps, but little snow.

Personally, I do enjoy a nice pork chop or chicken breast, occasionally some beef and hot sausage, but I try to eat in moderation.  I also eat a lot of fruit and veggies - salads, steamed broccoli, peppers, snow peas, etc.  Apparently, I fall somewhere in the "In Between".
