Spitzer Involved in Prostitution Ring??

A law enforcement official has told The Associated Press that New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer's involvement in a prostitution ring was caught on a federal wiretap.

The official says Spitzer is identified in court papers as "Client 9." The official says the New York governor met last month with at least one woman in a Washington hotel.

Gov. Eliot Spitzer apologized to his family and the public on Monday, but did not not elaborate on a bombshell report that he has been involved in a prostitution ring.

Were he just a politician, I would not be so offended, but after 8 years as the chief attorney for New York, and after all the public prosecutions he paraded, this is really hypocrisy at its best.

When are these politicians going to pull thier pants up and start working for the American people instead of pulling thier pants down for a prostitute? Or an intern? Isn't that what thier job is? Obviously, Mr. Spitzer and Mr. Clinton have forgotten that. Besides, Mr. Spitzer is ugly, so i can't see a prostitute having sex with him. All I can say is Bravo to Gov. Spitzer. Bravo to him for being a man and owning up to his mistakes and realizing that he made them.

Yes, Gov. Spitzer holds a position where he is a public figure. His actions are a direct reflection on his ability to run this state. However, like the rest of us, he is only human and because of his political background must become a robot and forget that he is just human like everybody else and I don't think that is fair. We voted him into office not because he had a squeaky clean private life but because we felt him to be qualified for the position. We voted for him because we saw something in him that may help this state.

Who really cares if the man does what every man has done since the dawn of time? It is very hypocritical of us to judge someone for being what God has made us all to be. Human.

Should I think he should resign? HELL NO and if he does, he's a coward. Anyone who admits defeat is a coward. He should stand tall and accept what he has done as one of many life lessons learned and continue to run this state to the best of his ability.  Did Clinton give up when the odds were against him? No.  He fought back.

Does hiring a prostitute make you a bad government official? No. It just makes you a human being who made a poor decision. Does having sex determine what kind of leader you are or can be? No. Just makes you human who has urges and needs. He is no different from anyone else who cheats on their wife or girlfriend. He is only being scrutinized because he is an elected official and God forbid an elected official shows any sign of weakness.

Finally, since he is an "elected official" what does that say about those who have elected him????

On balance, loss of Governor Spitzer and his replacement by David Patterson - a person with no executive experience - would be a severe loss for NYS.  Spitzer should not resign due to a single personal misstep.  I doubt he will be charged with anything greater than a minor offense, similar to a traffic citation, or at least I hope not.  He did not commit some corrupt act as a state official, only a personal failing which other officials have been guilty of doing while still remaining in office.  Spitzer needs this chance to still be a great governor, and let voters decide if he should stay or go in 2010.

tom f - this is not about throwing stones.  I don't care what he does in private, as long as it is legal.  If he'd simply had an affair with a 23 or 24 year old, that would be a mostly private matter, and he would have to deal with the personal issues.  This goes well beyond that.

To those who think this was just a personal matter, keep in mind that the four individuals who were actually arrested are charged with Federal crimes - read the actual affadavit from the FBI.  The issue revolves around interstate transportation for prostitution, and for money laundering.  As long as prostitution is illegal in most states, it is illegal to send people across state lines for that purpose.  Mr. Spitzer has NOT been arrested for any crime, yet.  he probably won't be charged on the Federal level, and at present, only the District of Columbia is in a position to do so, since the ... arrangement ... took place there.

What is sad is that our all too human Governor was held in high esteem for his relentless prosecution of people with great influence, and his personal behavior is hypocritical.  While the decision to resign is his, we should all keep in mind that his ability to lead in New York is severly damaged for some time in the future.  Bill Clinton's actions so derailed the public and Congress over his impeachment that nothing of any importance occurred during that period.  Given the rancor that exists between the Governor and the Senate Majority Leader and the distance that the Assembly Speaker will keep from him, what can he accomplish?  The only real power he will have for the next year will be the "Veto" pen.

The silly thing in all this is that he was caught mostly by accident, and because he didn't even learn from his techniques as a prosecutor ... he left a trail of evidence: in his financial records, email, etc.  Apparently, his personal transactions aroused suspicion, and the investigators traced him to the ...service...

If they let Clinton stay in the White House for "not having sex with that women"... then why don't they let this joker stay in and continue to spend our hard earned money?  $4,300.00 an hour?!?!? Hell... if you want to spend that much, I am sure you have my address... I would quit my day job!  But, due the popularity of the man/men... they will sit in office.  I am sure there are certain communities that would love to see the next guy step up and take office, the world will be worse than what it is already... at least NY state will be anyway.  Taxes would go even higher for the working so the people on welfare would be making more than the middle class!

Clinton 08 she has already run this country once, she won't have a problem doing it again.

i have alot of respect for facefurney; thinks kie someone i admired 30 years ago. i guess most of you have no respect for privacy; understanding the dirty dealing of politics; dems vs rep; any sleezy frame up that can be done to destroy a man. amanda , a few others, and of course facefurney exhibit knowledge, and integrity in there responses; as i said earlier despite the ongoings in politicians lifeall the way back to pres. washington; the constitution was written , goverment policies were implemented; the country grew, into a superpower and devolped iconic pop culture ; something you dont find in other countries. we have to slow down in the over exposure of media; tv, online, paper media , ; lets start showing some compassion , some class when political leaders are in office. spitzers gaffe, well not proven in evidence and not charged with a crime; is indeed a fault  but mistakes are made every day by all of us. spitzer has done good things in his life, lets correct the situation and move on with his career; an inexperienced lt governor is a catastrophe to this state. and for all you obama lovers, because hes black doesnt mean he is a supporter of obama, for gods sake isnt illinois hitting the bottom of the barrel economy and high crime rate ,and second in the nation in welfare handouts enough to discourage any support for him

Keep this in mind, when you have "the talk" with your son.
We have once again been given the opportunity to see just how vulnerable men really are. They have little to no strength when it comes to a beautiful woman or the pleasures of sex.  History has proven over and over again that this is their Achilles Heel. I feel for Mrs. Spitzer she has done NOTHING and she feels the shame. It's her call now. Either go for the "Mrs Kobe Bryant " jewelry collection or just cut loose with a divorce. I wish her and their daughters the best.

Spitzer should pay back every New Yorker the money he spent on his escapade. My tax money was raised because of this????? I could tell he was a crook right from the beginning. Resign Spitzer!! Get out!!
All you who think that just because he was with a prositute doesn't make him a bad guy. Wake up you morons!!! That is not a honest person. Is that what you want running our state? I know I don't. He commented a crime and should be punched for it just like anyone else would be punched.

When is this behavior by people in power or authority going to stop? What ever happened to talking to your own spouse and having a romantic encounter with the woman who probably gave up her career to help you get where you wanted to be. Whatever happened to just plain good manners and learning to do the right thing? I think that this man is done....and he should have the good sense to step-down. I always felt that when you were given the opportunity to serve your community or state that was a priviledge that few ever get. A position of power, to do good for your fellow man and this is what it comes to..unreal and disgusting. You were chosen to be governor of one of the most talked about states in our country...and this is all you can do...but,you can tax us to death...on almost everything? Who actuall paid this person...did we, the people of this state, pay!!! If this wasn't so stupid it would be funny. My heart goes out to your family and your daughters...how do they believe a thing you ever say, again. I know the people of this state won't. Bye....step down, now!!!

Can you imagine the Ego on this man to think he could get away with this? People are saying "Well, at least he's owning up to it" Well, of course he is...there's overwhelming evidence. It didn't bother him while he was doing it...making a fool of his wife and kids, I just feel so bad for his wife....I know what she's going through. She probably loves this man more than anything
