Birth control is now a sin?  Well, isn't this world a little OVER populated with people that can't afford nor want them as it is, so lets just say birth control is a sin now, but sex in a relationship isn't?  Can we contradict our selves and the bible now... sex is supposed to be for married couple and if married couples wants children because the CAN afford and will love them, they should be able to do what they want.

Some times I wonder who has all this time on their hands to think of stupid BS to either make new rules or not.  Just blows my mind.  MAYBE the should actually sit back and think before they throw their foot and fist in their mouths.

Obviously the Pope (as well as most other religious figures) does not think anyone has the capability of rational and/or moral thought.  As I suspected, religion is nothing more than a means of mob control.

This is great stuff.  The catholic Church is the richest organization in the world.  So I guess this makes them the biggest hypocrite now?  they aren't afraid in our area to close local churches and catholic schools, because the coffers aren't bringing in enough or shell out millions to protect their pedophile priest for that fact.

Issues such as environmental pollution, social injustice and genetic modification are huge global issues with potentially disasterous consequences, so the pope is only trying to inform people of what is wrong, the big issues of today. Amadna I think your taking it a little far, obviosuly if you have excessive wealthy and are doing things such as donating and trying to make the poor, especially those in the third world, which we as northerners have in fact caused and prolonged (do some research), more equal to us rather than say 'screw them I have money I don't care about thier problems', then you are doing good. If you still have money I don't think it's a sin, but all those people who have millions and millions and never  give back to those who allowed them to have it, the exploited people of the world, are the problem.

Oh, I forgot to add that people like Ritchie Rich should read more than one article on issues, most others mention that he said Pedophilia is included in this list, I myself am not exactly a religious person, but living morally is about more than religion, its about the good of the Earth and all that encompasses. I hold no candle for the Pope, but I see nothing wrong with another sinner (even a

Like Tim, I hold no particular admiration for the Pope, but would everyone have reacted the same way if Billy Graham had denounced the same behavior that the Catholic church now proscirbes?  Sadly, the Church has allowed its reputation to be stained by covering up for a few bad priests, so now moral declarations are assumed to be suspect?  There have been just as many bad examples in other denominations recently.

Assuming you accept the Bible as the source of morality, there is nothing in what was announced that should surprise anyone.  The statements are examples and adaptations of the teachings of Christ in modern terms.  If you accept that "God" gave us the world for our keeping, environmentally abusing it would be a sin.  If you accept that "God" created man and woman, abusing our bodies with illicit drugs and genetic manipulation would be a sin.

I did not hear the Pope casting stones at any individual, but rather he provided guidance on what should be considered evil behavior.  "Neither do I condemn you.  Go and sin no more."

Mouse, pediophlia is already covered under the first sins.  Lust.  To commit such a sexual crime towards anyone is fueled by lust.  The only thing the delinquent is thinking about, is how much pleasure and gratification he/she is receiving. Ah well, this whole thread just proves that people will take the negative side of any
issue.  The Pope simply provided a few more examples of all the "Seven Deadly
Sins" for us to think about.  Everything he listed can be traced to one of those.  
These are just modern examples, and perhaps more broadly applied. I can find examples of bad behavior associated with the Catholic Church, Methodist churches,
Baptist churches, and probably Islamic mosques and Jewish Temples as well.  
That just proves that human beings behave like human beings - in their own self-interest, often their own selfish interest.

I was raised Catholic and am VERY VERY PROUD to say I am no longer a Catholic.  I think it has turned into a Cult and they SUCK!  I'm all about Spirtuality and Treating people well, what more do you need.  Those are my opinions and that is all i have.  

I just can't seem to  follow  a religion based on "giving" to the church.  I was baptized a Catholic and raised one also. Now that I am much older & wiser might I add,
I can pick and choose. The church at home wants a $50 donation from every family, every week and embarrasses publicly the ones who can't afford to donate the specified amount.

When I see a local priest driving a brand new car every year, while I'm still driving a '95, its difficult for me to follow the teachings.
