I think this is ridiculous, a huge waste of trees. Seriously is there ANYONE out there who doesn't know about this yet? Maybe send them to those who don't file tax returns or veteran.... but the general public that has been reading and watching about this stupid plan for months? I know mine will go straight to the recycling bin. Just think of how many kids could get medical care with 42 million dollar. It is sickening.

Ya know, you really must live under a rock to not know about this.  I don't know why we are getting this money back.  Who's economy is it suppose to stimulate, since nothing is made here anymore.  Or maybe it is to pay for gas, so we can go to jobs that don't cover our bills anymore because of inflation.  It cost me 72.00 to fill my truck up with gas.  That is a days pay.  I wish I could drive a hybrid; but I have a set of triplets, two dogs, a husband, stuff, and a life! How about putting that 42 million towards college eds for kids that can't afford to go.  

Who do we contact directly to petition this waste that continues throughout the government.  If you don't own a television, radio or internet connection, you must know someone who does and would have told you this and other wonderful ideas the government has.   If you are an unfortunate soul that lives under a rock and you get a rebate check are you gonna send it back?  Just sent us the money already.  Stop wasting time and my money to tell me I'm getting money.

We can *** about this; but nobody is listening, except maybe the FBI.  Wouldn't it be nice if someone in the government had a brain....where the F*&% are we OZ?  We can vote them out; but when the choices are ALL CRAP, and until it changes.....garbage in garbage out, I say.  What happen to smart government officals we could actually look up to?  I think the last one might have been FDR. Hey, "Oh Brother" -- nobody MADE you have three kids and two dogs.  So you can't really use that as an excuse to have a truck instead of a hybrid car.

As for the rest of the plan, I say "survival of the fittest."  If you know about it, great, get your money.  If you somehow don't know about it, too bad.  People need to learn how to stay in touch with reality and figure things out for themselves.  When you send out letters like this, you just keep training people that they don't need to do any actual work because everything will just be handed to them.

I'm not complaining about the check at all, but why can't the the President do something to stop the rising gas prices and why is the letter necessary anyways...I think it's just a waste of time and money! Most of us on PLANET EARTH knows about this, unless they live in the dark ages.  WHAT'S THEIR POINT??...in telling everyone how much money it will cost to mail a letter to each household telling them they could qualify for a certain amout of money.  Why don't they just produce a form, like they did with the star rebate where each person needs to fill it out and submit it to qualify...put it online!!  It'll save TIME and MONEY!!

China is using more and more oil everyday. People are buying cars in China and a company in India just launched a car for the average person. Your talking billons of new users of gasoline. Rather than spending $42 million on a mailing to inform us of a possible economic stimulation, why not give 42 people one million dollars?  Or better 84 people a half-million?  Or even better 168 people $250,000?

Realistically, I don't NEED a quarter of a million dollars and neither do you.  So let's keep going...

While I would gladly accept $30,000 to help pay debts and get ahead, that's still a lot of money to give an individual.  Can we give 2,688 people $15,625?  Or 5,376 people get $7,812.50?  (The government can even keep that fifty cents for the cost of the stamp to mail the check.)

If just over 5,000 people received that kind of money, wouldn't it better stimulate the economy than a giant mailing saying that we're trying to stimulate the economy?  I think so, but who gets this money?

Clearly, there is a wealthy portion of our population that simply does not need it.  But the middle class certainly does, and they are an economic stimulation package's target market.  I know we are talking about a lot of people, but maybe once received, you're not eligible for it again.

Or maybe if you volunteer to forego the money on your turn, you get an enormous tax break or extended health care coverage.  Maybe the money should be awarded on a proposal system where you will justify your use of it (where paying down student loan debt trumps buying a tv that takes up your whole living room).

In the interest of a healthier economy, I will volunteer to NOT receive this letter so that others may receive a serious financial boost.  And who knows, maybe one day it will be me.

42 million is really not that much when your talking about the government.  Are they stupid? YES.  Are they wasteful? YES.  Are they accountable? NO.  And there lies the problem.  We've all let them go too far in dictating how and what we allow them to do with OUR money.  All the bantering back and forth does nothing.  We need real leadership by the people, for the people.  We've become a nation of handouts.  Think of the billions they've poured out to Katrina and still they cry out for more money instead of trying to pull themselves out and working together to rebuild their own communities.  We need leadership BY the people.  At least with the 42 million in postage maybe that will delay the need for postage increases for a little while.

When I think of all the millions Ms. Hillary is getting to ensure her election to the oval office (gag) I can not help but think that money could be given to the citizens of our great country for HER medical care plan. Prez. Bush tap dancing in front of the White House because that moron has no-NO idea what is going on in this country. Spending all these millions on that mailing is beyond words.  I for one will not go on a spending spree with the few bucks from the windfalll they are sending to make other countries rich. I will instead stimulate  my wallet and buy american ONLY. Time we all stop complaining and really do something to stand up for ourselves. Write to Washington, flood their email boxes, congressmen, senators, and on and on. Let US be heard loud and clear.

Every one has already heard that they are getting a rebate. This is the 21st century with 21st century technology. How do we stop this stupidity? We really can't because the government doesn't really care and they do what is best for them and the lobbyist. Has any one ever heard of the Roman Empire, guess what happened to them?

Sickening waste! Like everyone else has said, who DOESN'T know about it yet? At worst, couldn't they just do a Public Service announcement on TV? Short, sweet and we could mute it! Has to be cheaper, but wait....they are the Government, they could just tell all the networks to broadcast it free! Little 10 second spot that says, "Got Rebate? File Taxes!" BAM...it's done!

It just makes me gag that there are so many people struggling nowadays just to buy food and they can blow through $42 MIL like that! I think all these "officials" should be yanked out of Washington for at least 6 months, stuck in some ratty 2 BR apt with 4 kids (who go to public schools), give them a 10  y/o little car to drive and $1200/mo to live on. Another example of how the government is wasting taxpayers' money! How much more useful if that money were applied to health care, unemployment extensiion,
education and/or other concerns for those in economic straits. Recipients will know when they get their rebate. Seems this is only a political ploy to advertise how concerned about the administration wants everyone to believe that Bush's  heart is in their interest.

If the govt is adamant on sending a communication, why not send emails to the online filers ???

Government debt is nowhere near the same thing as personal debt. Governments just have to pay interest and they can retain the debt forever.

I would rather contribute to notifying people of a tax advance (what it really is) then be forced to pay the health care costs for all the lazy, fat Americans. (we are the world's most obese nation) We need a fat tax on twinkies like we have cigarette taxes to get some of you under control. Come out from under the rock and realize that oil is a finite resource and we pay less for oil than any other country in the world. If you would stop driving around solo in your SUV's and Ford F150's you would consume less, demand would drop, and prices would be more stable. Instead we have entire sports (NASCAR and drag racing) dedicated to oil consumption.  We are our own worst enemies so quit yer beotchin and do your part.

I am surprised that republicans are letting this happen.  Usually its the dems that like to waste money on programs that wont work.  We need a smaller government and i dont want the government baby sitting me or thinking they have to take care of me.  I can take care of myself  and everyone else should to.  As far as gas prices,  the 3.30 your paying for a gallon,  1.60 of it is federal and state tax. And no, I DON"T THINK OF IT AS A CHOICE, because I did it the responsible way, got married first.  As for the dogs, they came before the kids. So what's your point?
