Have an Air Travel Horror Story?

Today, we learned one out of ever four flights in the year 2007 was late. Being a frequent flyer myself, I can certainly confirm that. Trips that should take two hours that wind up taking eight due to airline and airport weather delays.

Horror stories?  How many would you like?  My most recent are:

Three weeks ago, I sat for 6 hours at Dulles International, with our airplane at the gate, waiting for 1/2 the flight crew to arrive.  At lease we were indies and warm.

Today, I've been diverted because of a mechanical problem, moved to another airline, and I will arrive at least 5 hours late. At least I'm waiting inside and warm.

It seems now that most airlines have placed so much emphasis on regional carriers with smaller planes that any interruption, delay or cancellation has a much wider impact than when most flights were full-sized planes.  There is little excess capacity on the busy routes and one cancelled flight can mean 50-70 people looking for a seat somewhere else.
