Oswego Fire Chief Retires after Scandal

The Oswego Fire Chief, who has been suspended since last month, announced Thursday he will retire effective this weekend.

Ed Geers worked for the Fire Department for 33 years, but decided to call it quits. He was suspended without pay last month for a scandal that the department has been dealing with since the summer.

He was accused of releasing a recording between a City Councilor and a 911 operator, who got into an argument while a fire was being reported.

I hope that the Chief did not retire because of this incident, but I wouldn't blame him if he did. I am glad that he released the tape. It shows what an idiot the City Counsilor was. There was no reason for the councilman to go into a rage like that. The dispatcher was just trying to get more information. That incident should show the people of Oswego that he has no respect for public employees.

Its about time - he should have been fired though.  The 911 tape was just the straw that broke the camels back - he an Amedio have been corrupt for a very long time.  How can a fire fighter get 3 DWI's and still have a job.  There is so much wrong with that department it isn't funny.
