Cayuga Co. Golf Course Clubhouse Catches Fire

Fire crews spent much of Tuesday afternoon battling a fire at the Highland Park Golf Club on Franklin Road in the Town of Sennett. Much of the clubhouse was destroyed.

Many of you have sent your photos in to us. Thank you, and keep them coming! E-mail yours to thewebunit@gmail.com.

I am saddened as Highland Golf Course has been a big part of my life.  I grew up up the street and had many dinners and special occasions celebrated there.  A more memorable moment, my wedding reception was celebrated on July 3, 1999.  It's sad to see such a beautiful structure fall, but I'm sure that Mr. Basile  and the board of directors of highland, will see that a great and probably better place be placed there.

i am truly shocked at what has happened at Highland Golf Club. i am very sad to see that beautiful building go up in flames.  i am even more shocked due to the fact that my wedding reception was just held there august 25th, not even two weeks ago. i will cherish my pictures even more now. but i'm sure they will rebuild, the staff there was wonderful and i'm sure it will be just as beautiful as it was for my wedding just over a week ago.

Wasn't there a fire in 1996? Why did a grease fire get out of control? I thought kitchens had fire supression near the grill and fryers?. Just glad nobody was seriously injured.

Its nice the the news people can never get information right. The club house is located in the town of Sennett and not Auburn. I give thanks to the many volunteer firemen and city of Auburn firemen.

Highland can only get bigger and better! Thank  GOD that no lives were lost .   That would be a devastation. Losing your golf gear can always be replaced!! Thank you for this public service announcement. Let the games begin !!

It was sad to see such a nice place go up in flame's because the cook left stuff on  the stove and went out for a smoke. I hope when they rebuild the will put fire supression in over the stove and frier's and all so a better ventalation system in.

I think its sad when you people have to blame the cook.
You should put the blame where it need to be.
The owners of the Highland, They have had 5 other unreported fires.
The cook on at the time was not there for any of them. They ansul system did not work properly, the ventalation system was broke, The vents shut off the day before.
With all those things ,
SERVE SANDWICHES.
The cook was cooking when clearly the owners should have not aloud the employee to serve anything other than SANDWICHES...
It was a dangerous situation not only for the employees but for the members..
Highland has been in business for many, you (hignland owners) should have known better.
Lets not forget NO WATER available at the scene. The fire could have been contained to the Kitchen.. Sennett needs to better take care of their citizens..
