The Seneca County sheriff has been arraigned on perjury and official misconduct charges and his top deputy is facing charges he stole thousands of dollars worth of clothing, ammunition and other sheriff's department equipment.
Sheriff Leo Connolly, Undersheriff James Larson and four sheriff's deputies were indicted on various charges after a grand jury investigation into allegations of misconduct.
Ontario County District Attorney R. Michael Tantillo led the investigation that began after a fire destroyed evidence and a vehicle stored in the former Seneca Army Depot in 2006.
Tantillo says Connolly told Larson to find ways to retaliate against four people who criticized the sheriff on a political Web site.
