i dont understand the significance of this; first of all , destiny will never get built; secondly , if congel thinks tthis is a great promotion for a better enviorment or is it his 85 percent interest in the car company.  this man stinks; hes a financial embezzler and when destiny fails , and all the investment money dissappears , im gonna laff in the citys face ; and i expect no less wiht this promotion of his investment.

Its funny how a guy with more mansions than I have pairs of shoes (Manlius, Skaneateles, and now Snooks Pond) and a private hunting preserve feels qualified to "educate and include the community...." about environmental friendliness.  Assuming global warming is man made, (an assumption I reject), if everyone consumed natural resources like this hog, we'd all be dead in a month.

Why isn't my 98 Civic listed?  It gets 39.5 miles per gallon on the highway which is better that most of the cars on the list.
I get 32 mpg around town.

I think they are narrow in their use of the term "green".  Check out this website. http://www.epa.gov/greenvehicle/allsmcar-07.htm  I was glad to see that my car, although not a hybrid (they are a bit pricey for my income) is "green" by EPA standards. If Carousel goes by EPA guidelines (which I doubt they will), I think they may need to rethink the number of parking spots they reserve. However, I think they will probably make up their own discriminating definitions of "green".

I'm still wondering where the motorcycle parking for the mall might be located?

Since when are hybrids out of the reach of the masses? You mean to tell me that a Prius is an exclusive vehicle of the rich? Toyota just announced that all of its vehicles will be hybrids, including the Yaris, Prius, Corolla, Camary, etc. Insidentally, not all of the vehicles listed are hybrids.  My Honda is listed and it is not a hybrid.  It seems that the contempt of jon ch, clemenza, centralsquareworkingstiff, vince adams for Pyramid, Congel and Destiny USA are blinding their logic.

How about the mall put in some parking for mother's and children.  Do they realise how difficult it will be to go to the mall if you have to get your stroller and toddler on and off the bus.

I absolutely think that for many in this area hybrids are pricey, especially for working classes with families, high taxes, mortgages and college costs. (Any that I have liked have been low to mid 20s). As I said, I couldn't fit one into my budget right now. Hopefully,as more become the norm in the market, prices will come down or maybe my income will go up (?!). My car also is not hybrid, but on the list. But it ultimately doesn't really matter, because I usually just park where available. While I am definitely for this development project (ANY in this area is crucial) and hope that this will trigger MORE progress, I still keep in mind that our local economy now is very depressed and, although promoting green is good, maybe this isn't the best time to do something like this.

We already have handicapped parking and now we will have green car parking.  Someone above mentioned Mothers with children parking.  How about overweight parking further out in the lot, let'em walk, after all they need the exercise.  Gotta have elderly parking.  After all you cant' ask Granny at 75, even if she's not handicapped to walk a half a mile in the snow and wind to get inside.  Teenagers should have special parking too, for the protection of other drivers, after all stastically they are more likely to cause an accident.  And how about special parking for pick-ups and vans because you can't see around them when backing up.  Heck while we're at it how about parking for different races....oops is that too far?  We did things like that once.  It didn't work.  But still there are people out there who want to class everyone and everything.  Here's a novel one, first come first served.

I would be much happier to see special parking for those with babies and toddlers.  As a mom of 2 toddlers and live very close to the mall, I will not go there now if I have to take a bus.

I am 69 years old and have arthritis - not bad enough to have a handicapped parking sticker, but would like to park as close as possible.  However, I have a Dodge Grand Caravan, because with arthritis it is much easier to get out of a van by stepping down rather than a smaller fuel efficient car and have to pull yourself up.  Also, my husband worked 30 years for NPG as did several people in the Syracuse area and we have put many tax dollars into the Carousel Center but not many of us can park close unless we have a Caliber.  I will definitely go elsewhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm a mother, college student, and online retail business owner. It is next to impossible on a 50-75k yearly income to afford a 25k-30k hybrid and unrealistic for a family to be shoved into a compact Focus or Cavalier. You'd have to have prime credit to even lease or finance one of these and Fucillo won't approve a working family with a 650-700 credit score for that type of loan, nor would any bank. This is for the rich snerts and promotes their money and leaves us on the back of the bus. BOYCOTT, buy online. That's GREEN!

This is one more reason for me to skip that mall i guess maybe his ex partner had the right idea when he got out of dodge and started building places like the town center up in watertown. at least there i dont have to drive around for an hour wasting gas and pulluting the enviorment i can park fairly close and shut my vehicle off. i think the idea of giving people with eco cars preffered parking is defeating the purpose it makes all the other people have to look longer and drive around more it should be the other way around.

I have been shopping there less and less. To be GREEN and save the enviroment. It is much easier ordering online, You don't have to waste gas and not pay taxes that  line CONGELS pockets anyway.

Because of all the good stores that continue to move out of the mall, what reason is there to go. It's cementing in potential greenspace. And there is nothing in Syracuse to atract people to come to this soon-to-be monstrosity. Personally I think someone should put a little lead in Congel's head and really do something for the environment like saving a little of our precious air from being breathed by another scumbag.

What about motorcycle/scooter parking? My motorcycle gets 45-50mpg and takes up far less space. If there is not a designated motorcycle parking area I have to take up a full space with my little bike, what a waste.

They have it backwards! There should be preferred parking for people driving the monster snob vehicles since the have the most money and will spend more at the maul! All us poor slobs should be shopping at Walmarts anyways...

As you can see from the comments above, you have angered the masses.  Your intent is good in theory, but would be better suited to apply to your employees and construction crews.

When in business, you try not to single out folks or put them in a position where others will single them out....you want more to come to your store not less.

You open your arms and say "please, come to me" and you never, ever forget that you try to earn customers and the dollars will follow.  If you just want to earn dollars the customers are harder to get.

Get out from behind your desk.  It is time to start meeting and greeting the customers and quit courting the politicians.  You have our taxes, you have our economy and if you finish your project then, yes, you will have built something everyone will come to see.

Better parking for senior and parents with little kids is great idea.  Base it on people and basic needs Bob, not on things that matter less, like what you wear or drive.

Why does everyone think that special parking is needed for every little thing?  Cars?Parents with little kids? Pregnant women?

Come on, I managed with my kids and so have lots of other parents through out the years.  Whatever happened to the concept that walking is good exercise?  Parents teach your children to stay with you, hold hands, and walk together.  

So if one doesn't have a "green" vehicle, then you are being penalized, singled out.  I don't get it.  Next thing you know they will be making special parking for the color  vehicle one drives.  Who is going to "police"  and enforce this?  Is someone going to go around with the list and look at each and every vehicle?  WHat will be the penalty if one parks in the wrong place? Who will reap any monetary rewards, if this is a penalty?  What affect will it have on ones driving record?

Society is just getting carried away with too many special cases.

What about my vehicle (2006} Honda Civic. I get 35 mi. per gal. Thats probably a lot more than Congel gets on his vehicle. What happens if I park in  green space? Will Mr. Congel benefit by having my car towed? Will money go into his pockets? Does he have some kind of a deal with a HYbrid Co. It's hard enough finding a handicapped parking space these days.

Every day there is a 'news story' regarding Destiny and/or Congel - Maybe I am being cynical when I think that perhaps this all for public relations - Keeping  the name Destiny in the news: whether it be the mall or Mr. Congel.   Whether what is proposed is ever built; time will only tell. But - we hear or read about it one way or another EVERY single day - by newspaper headlines or as lead story on the television news programs.    

I, myself, agree with everyone who is against this "special" parking for these people with the hybrid cars. Its totally unfair. What about the rest of us who can't afford these types of cars. Yet again, lets reward the rich for having the money that they have. Its complete BS. What about the elderly who don't have the cars or the handicapped stickers? Or about the women who are pregnant & have to walk in the rain, snow, or very hot weather?? And i have to disagree with Sally about special parking for pregnant women... SO WHAT you and whoever else you knew who have kids managed walking a far distance while you were pregnant and had kids. Thats you. No every other pregnant women out there. Everyone is different. I am 8 months pregnant with 2 other kids and with my pregnancy comes problems. Problems like severe back problems & difficulty breathing. So to me, special parking for pregnant women would be better than giving these parking spots to the rich.

Given the response here of a large number of people I suspect that the Carousel managers will realize their idea is not going to increase sales of "green" cars and that the publicity is mostly negative. I happen to agree that most hybrid and "green" vehicles are more expensive than the average car, and that this idea, while laudable, does smack of elitism.  

Whether the full Destiny ever happens is not the issue here, but the larger plan is one of the most "green" facility designs in the Northeast.  The management is putting its parking where its mouth is.  If you want to put your mouths in some other shopping facility, you are free to do so as well.

Why doesn't channel nine do a story about Mr Congel's fenced in pay and shoot hunting preserve. I f you have ever seen it you can quickly see that there is nothing green about it . Or how about his threat to take this area off the tax roles if his take over of public roads (which run through this property) aren't met.This guys a bum and a crook .shop somewhere else.

I live less than thirty miles from Carousel Mall. I have been there three times. When Destiny is finished I will probably shop there zero times. I could care less who parks where. This is a publicity stunt just like putting the steel beams in the ground and hiring all the destiny workers. I hope the people involved in this project don't get burned to bad.

Bob's not my uncle (nor are you) and I don't work for him.  I live far enough from Carousel and Syracuse that I don't much care what he does.  My comments were simply aimed at people who seem to think that any time someone gets a little special consideration, such as "green" cars, that someone's rights are being trampled.  Again, how many spots were set aside?  How many poor crippled children in wheel chairs are forced to trudge through snow and ice to get to the mall?

... and what does any of it have to do with Mr. Congel's private life and property?  I'm really hard pressed to see what "suffering" he has caused.  The Pyramid Company built the Mall, providing jobs and a new shopping venue.  It's now going to expand, though time will tell how much of the vision is hallucination, and other than the displaced oil tanks, who was damaged?

Actually, Adam, it's a very American idea - special privileges - we've been doing it for a couple of centuries now.  Politicians get them, clergy get them, the handicapped get them (and devserve them), verterans get them (not eough, either).  Perhaps it's time to remind everyone that "Liberty" and License" are not the same.

Like it or not, Carousel Mall is a private facility, and can set whatever rules they choose within the law(that's the American part) ...and when you park your SUV anywhere you want, and the Carousel security people have your car towed, that the towing service can park your SUV wherever they want as well.

My car is considered "green". And it's not a Hybrid. It's a simple Pontiac Vibe. It cost me $17,000. It gets 36mpg. What kind of SUV can you get for $17k? And what's your gas mileage? Who are all you people saying you can't afford a "green" car?? Heck, I can't afford the GAS in an SUV, let alone an SUV... jeesh!

I believe that the list is too restrictive.
My wife and I have a '95 Plymouth Neon and a '97 Dodge Neon.
They both get 28 - 30 mpg.

I of course feel the mall did the right thing.  I love the small reward for doing something to save the earth.  I do agree that moms shold have special parking as well as long as they get out of the car with a stroller or kids in tote.  As for Mr. Congels type of car or if he hunts on private land or not... What does that have to do with this???  Until you do somethng to help save the planet for the next generation and those to come.  Stop your whining!!!  I applaud you Mr. Congel and only hope it is not to late for the future!!!
