GMA's Robin Roberts Being Treated for Breast Cancer

Good Morning America Anchor Robin Roberts announced this morning that she is being treated for breast cancer.

Roberts said her battle began a few weeks ago, when the staff of the show learned their colleague and friend Joel Siegel had passed away. Robin was preparing a piece about Joel's courageous battle with cancer, and how he became an advocate for the importance of early cancer screenings.

Roberts says that night, when she went to bed, she did a self breast exam and found something that women everywhere fear: I found a lump. The doctor did a biopsy and confirmed that the lump found was indeed an early form of breast cancer.

You can leave your comments about Roberts, or perhaps your own battle with breast cancer here.

Dear Ms.Roberts,
I have watched GMA for years. I too have family in the south, Crowley, LA and surrounding states.

Eighteen months ago I was told I had cancer of the thyroid. This after my eldest sister died of Adenocarcinoma at 46 and my remianing sister a Nurse Practioner in the GYN field was found with stage 1 breast cancer. She is alright due to early detection. I am ok, though I wish there was more publiicty about Pappillary Cancer.

This isn't about us; it is about you and I know God answers prayer. I know HE will give you the strenght that you need to see this and get through it. You are not alone.
Why is a question we may never get answers for, but HE has the answer we need.
I will be praying for you as I am sure others have and will be.

Look forward to your recovery and reports,
God Bless you,

B.Turner

Dear Robin; best wishes to a very courageous woman. It takes guts to be public about something so private and personal. Thank you for sharing your story. If
your story encourages even ONE woman to do a self-check for the first time,
or to do it again, and then to see her doctor at the moment she becomes suspicious, you will accomplished something else really wonderful.    Your very nature makes you a survivor.   Thanks, and good luck.

I am not one to sit and jot a note to someone in the public eye.

I admire you telling all of america such a personal event in your life.  The message I clearly took when I listened to your news this morning was; that you are just like millions of women in america.  Just because you are in the public eye everyday, you do not fear, hurt or or pray any differently than the average woman.  I, like many many others, know women who have been in your situation and have survived.  Because of your determination and close friendships with other strong women, you will ultimately be able to say you too are a survivor.

Wishing you all the best and all the comfort your friends and family can offer (strangers too). lcc

Hi Robin,
I watch you every morning the first half hour, while getting ready for work.
I also was diagnosed with begining stages of breast cancer, it now has been 5 1/2 years.
The best advise that  I can give, is stay strong, be very positive always, and lots of family and friend support.
Wishing you all the best, knowing you will soon be a fellow survivor!

Robin,
I too have watched your show for years while getting ready for work and agree that "the smile you wear looks great on you."  Unfortunately, this will be a bump in the road.. although the road is long... you will over come this the survivor.  It will not be a pleasant thing to go through, but you will get through it!

Coming from a long line of cancer on both sides of my family, I know what it entails after losing my maternal grandmother at the age of 54 in the 80's of Breast and Spider cancer, and my paternal grandmother just beating Lung Cancer after being diagnosed in June of 2006.  I was found to have cervical cancer while pregnant for my second son, I know it is nothing compaired to what you are about to endure... but that word is just a nasty curse on us women.

Keep your spirits high, the medicine and treatment now a days is so much more advanced than years ago, you will be in safe hands!

Good luck with everything and prayers to you and yours!

Robin,
It may be a bit weird hearing from a man on this subject.

I am recovering from Lung Cancer. It has been two years since the operation and the Chemo. I am clean.

I owe everything to my wife and family for my recovery. My wife is the real hero. She helped and coached me and kept my spirits high through the tough months. I love her for all the sacrifices she made, the sleepless nights she spent watching my beathing and pain.

Without her support I can say I would not made it. I can't love her enough for all that she went through, but it was worth it finding it out the way I did. Life is almost normal.

I have not seen you, I have no doubt that you will make it with all of the treatments out there. But, I wish you all the best for you in the years to come and you will be in our thoughts.

Ed

Dear Robin--I just can't believe that you have breast cancer. You are my hero. You have done what I did for 25 years, drive school bus. I have known a lot of people with cancer and I know that if they had the technology then that they would be here today. Never fear, they know too much now that I know in my heart, that you will come through this with flying colors. You are a very active person and should have no problem. Keep up the good work on GMA. We are all rooting for you. Diane Sawyer will help you all she can, I know just by how well you two get along. You are like best friends and she will be at your side all the way. Best of luck to you and may God Bless, as Red Skelton always said. Love you!!!

I would love to see testing for GUYS who are born with KLIENFELTERS SYNDROME [inability to nmake male hormones and the only hormones reging in them is FEMALE HORMONES which makes them have big female looking boobs and maybe if their male hormone count is lacking they could allways have some sort of a female boobs and the problems with having those boobs like a woman would have....

BUT BECAUSE THEY ARE A GUY won't ever be tested....
I'm one of those born with KLIENFELTERS SYNDROME [genetic disorder that runs in families and one in around 400 people worldwide get it]

There is Faith I believe not because I am an organist but that is what i believe. I am glad you were able to use themedia. I was able to use my church family and where I was working. Thank-goodness for people and faith.
