three areas not mentioned; are as follows; carrier cirle, dewitt; bridging the thruway , thompson rd via mattydale and entrance to gm circle. this is a golden oldie, but still very effective. they widened the road a little , still dangerous especially around rush hour.   bridge st and the entrance to 690 going west. this area always attracts a wild crowd. seems like theres a cuople juicy ones each week. to top nit off, its only 40 mph. finally, the dreaded 13 curves, also a golden oldie; doesnt get much publicity, but uoung guns are challenging the road every day; and quietly the damaged car count adds up; dont worry, the headless woman hasnt been seen in 20 years; must be todays youth turns her off.

I drive in from Baldwinsville every day so I'm quite familiar with the crap shoot that is the 690 ramp to 81 South exchange in Syracuse.  I work at Upstate Medical Center so I have to get off 81 almost as soon as I get on to take the Adams St. exit off of 81.  The main problem is this stretch where you have to take 81 for a very short stretch and then immediately exit.  The design fosters accidents because for those of us coming off the 690 exit ramp, the lane merges before we exit, and it's almost impossible to look over your shoulder to your left to see if anyone is coming in the seconds that you have to merge.  I've looked to my left, not seen anyone, and then a second later there's a car on my left bumper traveling 60+ mph that wasn't there a second ago!  I pretty much stay in the lane that I'm in but unfortunately, people coming down 81 South don't slow down much at this intersection, almost as if they feel that it's their lane and that those of us coming off 690 and merging need to wait for them.  Unfortunately, there isn't enough room to do this.  I remember one very scary incident for me when I was coming off the exit ramp just in time to merge with an 18 wheeler who was traveling down 81 South at a fast rate of speed in the right lane, the lane that I had to merge into.  Even slamming on my brakes I almost didn't have enough time to come to an almost complete stop to let this big rig go by.  It would be SO much easier if they could figure out a way for those of us coming from 690 and exiting at Adams St. to do so without having to travel 81 South for those dangerous seconds before we can get off!

In the eastbound lane of 7th North Street at the Buckley Road intersection, there is a sign indicating "Route 81 right lane".  The problem is, if you intend to enter the southbound lane of Route 81, you should be in the LEFT lane.   I assume that most local drivers are aware of this situation.  However, with a number of hotels in the area, there are drivers unfamiliar with this situation and ultimately have to cross over three lanes of traffic at the last few seconds to enter Route 81 south.  I have been cut off by a tour bus recently and just yesterday a tractor trailer was blocking three lanes of traffic attempting to cross from the right lane to the left access road to route 81.  This situation is easily correctable by just simply changing the sign.

oops, i overlooked the article; carrier cle was mentioned and justifiably so.try this one on ; rt 5 [e gennesee st by the dewitt entrance off 481. they changed the road , put a stop sign up and still its become a habitual accident , especially now with all that construction for 5 miles up the road.any way , thank you for the correction; answer me this; 30 years ago that construction would have been finished already; this seems to be the biggest hazards on the road. and tell those workers, to work hard all day instead of standing around; out to lunch.

I agree with all of these and have one more - though it may be obscure to most - that I feel is quite dangerous.  The corner of Kasson Road and Seneca Tpke.  Heading north or south on Kasson you will find that the visibility is very poor at this intersection.  Heading south, at the intersection the view to the left (east) is obstructed by vegetation, requiring you to pull dangerously far into the intersection to see clearly.  The view to the right (west) is very poor as well due to the fact that this intersection is at the crest of a hill.  So, during the day you really have to cross your fingers if you are heading south on Kasson and have to make a left - hoping that there isn't any traffic (that you can not see due to the hill) heading east, or at least that there is enough room to pull out.  People take the speed limit for granted through this intersection and are usually at or beyond the posted limit of 55 mph.  You really have to make sure your radio is off, and roll down your window to see if you can hear traffic coming - or just close your eyes and go...  At night, this intersection is actually safer because you can see cars coming from a distance due to their headlights.  That is, as long as they remember to turn them on.

I drive Route 31 between Cicero and Bridgeport several mornings a week in the summer.  The road is perfectly safe until you put a bunch of crazy drivers on it.  I have been forced off the road several times to avoid a head on crash with someone passing.  If I do 55 MPH cars pile up behind me.  Most cars are doing 65 – 70 MPH down this 2-lane road.  Anyplace can be unsafe if the drivers are not careful and at least make an attempt to obey the law.

Any place where there is a "Yield" sign.  People don't know what that means anymore!  They don't look to see their way clear, they just keep going!  There have been several times when I was almost hit by a car that failed to yield.  Maybe they should be replaced with stop signs!!
