Turning Stone Hoping To Get Liquor License?

It appears that Turning Stone is trying, once again, to get a liquor license. Their hope and plan is to serve alcohol at each of their facilities in the near future.

Log on to turning stone's website and you find a message. It says the casino is "working with the New York State government regarding the serving of alcohol.”

It also asks guests not to bring in any alcoholic beverages of their own in the meantime. A practice, that's been accepted up until now.

A spokesman form the State Liquor Authority says the casino/resort hasn't filed an application. But, they have heard the Oneida Indian Nation wants to serve alcohol during this fall's PGA tournament.

Jerry Reed with the Oneida Indian Nation says the notice was posted on the website within the last day or two. He has no other details on any sort of negotiations with the State.

What do you think? Should Turning Stone get a liquor license?

They don't need to pay any attention to any other NYS laws.  Why do they need to pay attention to the liquor authority?  They could set up a still and make their own booze.

I don't think it's a very good idea until they comply with all the laws. They need to get legal on all fronts befor the state gives them anything. My thoughts, thank you.

i think we need to decide whether they have to follow state laws or not. that being said i wonder when nys is going to wake up and see what a casino can do. legalizing these types of venues would increase our tourism dollar and maye lower out taxes. it seems everyone wants to complain about what the indians have and what they are doing but in the long run they have NO competition. Vernon Downs is so burdened with tax issues they can not compete. i think we need to allow the Harrah's and the Trump's to set up shop (imagine a casino @ destinyusa)and than all you people who are complaining about the indians will have no more complaints they would put turning stone OUT OF BUSINESS. Real casinos  acutally pay money out of there slots and tables . Turning Stone doesnt have to do that either they can set there cards to pay only to who and when they want to pay it is not a game of luck @ turning stone. i still frequent the casino but i do know there are better out there and as soon as my gas money goes further i wil be also. Atlantic City is nice drive and offers free rooms to players and imagine this you can play a slot machine for longer than an hour with out running to the atm. And oh yea you can drink and smoke in the casino and you pay taxes things you buy. the problem here is another thing that people can complain about the indians rather than fighting to beat them at their own game.

RIGHT, THE STATE HAS THE AUTHORITY TO TAX THEM FOR EVERYTHING. THEN OUR LOUSY POLITICAL HACKS  CAN THROW THE MONEY AWAY ON THEIR OWN RACE TRACKS AND CASINO'S, SKI RESORTS, THRUWAY AUTHORITY HEADQUARTERS, STATE WORKERS, AND LEGISLATORS.
I SAY LEAVE THE INDIANS ALONE AND TRY TO TAKE CARE OF THE BUSIENESS YOU  ALBANY FLUNKIES ARE CURRENTLY SCREWING UP!
AND BESIDES, WE HAVE DONE SO MUCH TO HELP THE NATIVE AMERICAN!

it probably wouldnt serve ther best interest to have a liquor licsense. 35% OF THERE BUSINESS IS BETWEEN THE AGES OF 18-21. 90 colleges within 100 mile radius, all of these kids money and their parents. also, senior citizens and there monthly checks make up a large profit margin.; therefore more drunks and angry people would turn their government checks away. losing the college money would not serve them well. this organization is ripping off the state , government, and the good citizens of new york state. they have criminal activity going on  also, inside the casino. there abuse of employees, firing people for no reason, and suspicious behavior ; check out the crap tables once in a while. they claim to give jobs to people inthe area; 5000; they certainly use them for leverage when they dont want to pay taxes. yyet within, they have fired 10000 since 1993. they are the only native american goup inthe country that doesnt pay taxes. what makes them so special; who have they paid off or bribed to stay away from paying taxes. some bimbo stated all that we did to the native american; hold on, iim not 400 years old. speak for yourself. you will never see a liquor licsense ; its not in the nations best interest; a corrupt and vile nation.

I have tickets(8) for the September 15th show and I feel I should be able to bring booze in to that show because at the time I purchased these tickets I was able to do so, but yesterday someone called my house to say we could not bring any booze at all......... and not even to our HOTEL room! I should be grandfathered into this decision because it was made after I purchased the tickets!!!! So sad all the money you spend there and you get the shaft. If they ask for the liquor licence then the goverment should control more things that happen there at the casino.........the should not have a break on anything ..............Indian or not treated equal!!!!!!!!

Ms. Lowell,
Keep your mouth shut and carry a pocket flask.  You don't need a licence to drink there, they need a licence to sell it to you.

My thoughts are, GOOD! I hope they don't get the  license. It would suit them very well. As Halbretter thinks he is above the law.  Maybe the PGA golf tournament will return to Binghamton. Where is belongs and was for many years. I for one will NEVER step foot in any tribal run business. Until the day the field is leveled for the non tribal owned business owners.

As a former operations manager for the casino I was the one who came from California to help them get this project going.  Im from Rome N.Y. but now living in Las Vegas.  It is sad to see the ripple effect from the casino.  People losing homes, jobs, saving and sometimes life adding alcohol to this will make the tribe more money but without a doubt will ruin the good people of upstate New York.

I would love to see a study on how many jobs the Nation created versus how many (fiscally) dead bodies they left around!

Since the Nation claims it is autonomous and so doesn't have to pay taxes, how about putting an excise tax on anything that crosses the 'border' into their territory? The tax would already be on whatever they 'import' before they get their hands on it.

kudos,to you mr cambell, you appear to be an honest man; maybe, but the internal corruption , firing people illegally , theft , abuse of emplouees, etc,is even worse than the typical,[we wont pay taxes.] its time the goverment shuts them down, and investigates for ilegal dealings ; im sure they will find something resulting in fines and jail time

There is alot more I could say but I think it would come across wrong.  I was blinded and excited to come home but I'm not a dumb person.  The Upstate New York that I knew has changed.  The casino this, the casino that.  I will be honest I was let go with no warning no nothing.  All those programs for the employees just sound good in a press release.  The casino talks about how many people it employess ( 5500) Everyone should ask how people they did employee. the number is up to well over 16000.That is over 10,000 people gone some deserving most not.

Isn't it true that they bring in caterers that get a one day license and serve?  I heard that one of the women voting has a conflict.  Her husband is one of the caterers who stands to lose lots of $ if the casino starts serving.  They will then use in house service.  Any truth?

Personally, I think the existence of the casino was a pretty big concession to the Oneida Nation, and they have been raking in the cash pretty continuously.  One of the early conditions set for building and operating the casino was "no liquor sales."
With the exapnsion into the luxury hotel and golf courses, it has obviously occurred to the Oneidas that there is more money to be pulled in from the sale of alcoholic beverages.

Limiting the sales to the external builidings like the gold clubhouse is a farce, and a pretty silly spin on the original agreement.  I'd prefer to see the State Liquor Authority deny the license. Then again, my presence in the casino has occurred exactly twice in ten years, so, what do I care?

They will get it in January .  Its a game the state plays..... deny them on the first go around to make everybody oposed happy  and then give it to them.  State isnt getting a dime on casino revenue, cigarettes, gas so they will cave for the liquior revenue.
