Local Pro-Basketball Team Announces Name Change

Out with the Bullies, in with the "Raging Bulls." Thursday, Syracuse's new professional basketball team announced it is changing its nickname to the "Raging Bulls."

The team’s original choice, the Bullies, was criticized by parents who worried the name glorified bullying. The new team name was picked by the fans.

its ok, but a more rare name, might have been something to grab you. the avalanche was too cold; a cat name; e.g. cheetahs, pumas or ocelots. but i wish the tewam good-luck in their endeavors, you might want to recruit former su players to spice up the attendance. thank-you and bon chance.

I think It is a little better but it depends on who they are going to work with , If it is not Chicago Bulls then it will be confusing. I hope some of the local stars get to play from the local colleges.

I like it a lot!  Really ragin'.  Bullies was ok and appropriate for Syracuse's Mafia heritage, but the new name is tops.

Agreed. You could say the team was 'bullied" by the public into changing their name.

It's a catchy name.  I think having the franchise come to Syracuse is an awesome idea especially in curbing youth violence in Syracuse.  Giving them a positive identity and productive time spent in attending games will benefit the community.  I am very envious of the generations who were able to watch boxing at the armories in time's past also.

I think that the team name should reflect something about it's location. If we were in Texas, than Raging BUlls would be tolerable. In NY - c'mon.. lets embrace our world. We should be The Avalanche.. I LOVE, LOVE basketball.. I hope SYracuse takes advantage of this amazing opportunity. I do agree that we need to recruit former SU players - another attendance bonus.
