Two Important Recent Speeches

I'm going to give you a break from my take this week, and instead make a suggestion: find an hour or so sometime in the next few days, and watch two speeches that made news this past week. You'll find both on our website.

First, Governor David Paterson's speech in Albany...delivered immediately after taking the oath of office on Monday, March 17. (click here to watch)

Second, Senator Barack Obama's address in Philadelphia on Wednesday, March 19. (Click here to watch)

Sometimes, you simply must watch and listen to ALL of what someone has to say on a given day...in order to take a measure of a man or woman's position...and where they're coming from. News coverage, no matter how in-depth, often doesn't even come close to reflecting a full dose of reality. Besides, by taking the time to watch and listen yourself...you become your own editor, your own journalist...at least on that subject for that day.

Governor Paterson's speech came at a critical moment of transition of power in state government...in the wake of a sudden scandal. Senator Obama's speech came at a critical moment in his campaign for President...his topic was race relations in America.

Both speeches, in my opinion, are worth your time. I'd also love to hear what you think, after watching and listening to them.

Is/Was your Hotmail Down?

Posted by Shaun Ganley, Web Producer - Scanning through some of the technology blogs today, I noticed several entries talking about Hotmail being down on the East Coast, including New York State.

Other Microsoft websites (and Live.com e-mail) were reportedly reachable but extremely slow.

I can't say I've noticed, I'm a GMail guy myself.

So far, there's been no comment from Microsoft on the problems... but the folks in the blog world are ranting about this? Have you experienced any problems? I'd like to know!

How are You Spending the Christmas Holiday?

Posted by Shaun Ganley, web producer - At first glance, it 'seems' like the world stops on Christmas Day. Driving into work this morning, there was perhaps a car or two on the road. Syracuse looked like a ghost town!

However, people do work today! The news has been slow to come in here on the website today -- but I'm still here! There will be a newspaper on your doorstep tomorrow, that folks are putting together today!

The hard-working folks at 911 continue taking your phone calls, police & firefighters are working.

My question is ---what are you doing today? Spending time with the family? Volunteering someplace? Working? Going to the Movies? Leave your comments!
