I think it's wonderful that she wants to spend more time with her children.  That's what mothers should do.

This is one of those "mixed feelings" things. While I am so happy for Julie to be taking time for her family, I'm sad for the rest of us. Julie has always been such a bright spot in everyone's day! I've met her in person a couple of times and she's just as sweet and gracious as she is n the air. As for your quote "there has been no formal announcement immediately made about who will replace her", you will find someone to work side-by-side with Rick on Bridge Street, but Julie is irreplaceable. I watch Bridge Street most mornings  and I have to say being a mother
and working is very hard. Your never feel like you there when you children
need you. If you are not working you feel like ,I am going to be able to support
my family financially. It's a hard choice to make.
   I just went back on 2nd shift so at least my children will always  be with one
parent. If you have to work it's a hard choice to make . Do you miss out on school
events or after school events. I have always said " Hats off to those mother/fathers that can afford to stay home with there children."
   I will miss your smiling face in the morning.Between Bridge street and The View how needs to watch anything else.

Julie:  My wife took a year off when she had our son, and she recently went back to work full-time.  There are many days she wishes she could be back at home.  I am very happy you have the chance to do so.  Channel 9 is lucky to have had you as a reporter/anchor for 10 years.  You definitely put a smile on everyone's face.  Best of luck!

I am so sorry to see Julie leave but totally understand her feelings at this stage of motherhood. Her children will benefit the most from her wonderful, sparkle and enthusiasm for life!!! Julie, most of all, you will not regret the time that you have with your own children. I faced a similar choice 20+ years ago and the value to your family and life are irreplaceable. You will find that you can always return to work but never return to the exciting first steps your children will be making with all of their ventures. (Which by the way, go by much tooooooo fast!)

I too will miss you on Bridge Street. But as a mother of three boys myself, ages 20, 17 and 13, I have not regreted for a minute that I had decided to stay home with them. Especially now... one is in college and another will be going in the Fall.
I will also admit it has not always been all fun and games, there's times you wonder why everything is all about "everyone else". But there are also many times when they make you and your husband more proud that you could ever have imagined. That's when you realize you made the right choice. Good luck and be sure to enjoy it through the good times and do your best to endure the tough times. I will be thinking of you. Congratulations on a decision well made!

I hate to see her go! Julie is a great asset and a great personality to tune into daily.  I don't blame her a bit... being a SAHM it's the toughest, but the BEST job around.

I am going to miss you soooo much.  You are such a joy to watch every morning.  You have one of the best attitudes and outlooks on life.  Rick is going to be lost.  They will NEVER find someone like you!  (Christie would not be a good choice!) You are one of a kind.  However, I do understand wanting to be home with your children.  I had three boys and worked with the first one for five years and then retired.  I wanted to be with them, do things everyday with them and just experience them.  I wanted to take care of them, not someone else.  You think to yourself, why did I have them?  To work?  And you know the answer to that.  You and I were very fortunate to be able to do this.  Enjoy your beautiful children.  Hopefully, you might give us updates, or come on the show from time to time, or the show could come out to the house to see how you are doing.  We will always be interested in what you are up to.  Congratulations, good luck in all you do, and have lots of fun!

Who the heck went in your cearal bowl this am?  She has been great on the news and I'm sure on Bridge Street as well.  Sure it may not be the most important thing going but it is nice to let someone know they will be missed.  I think it is great for someone to take time off or stop working to be with their family.  Not many people can afford doing that which is a shame all in itself.  The Gov. should give incentives for stay at home Moms.  Let me tell you I would rather go to work than stay at home a do the domestic thing, its hard work.  Maybe if more kids were to have someone home after school.... well I am going to stop because I don't want to offend anyone.  Take a chill pill and try getting up on the right side of the bed.

i think that it is great that she is taking time for her children.  i hope to see her back on channel 9 sometime in the future.  maybe she could come back for some guest appearances.  maybe they could put carrie lazarus on to replace her.  too bad heather hegedus left cause she would have been great on bridge street.  julie you will be missed.  

Randall, pretty funny about a new show, The Syracuse View.  Do away with Bridge Street, audience cannot be very large.  Julie is fortunate to financially be able to quit working and raise her kids, not many are able to do that.  Do not put Christie on Bridge Street, she has a more important job, and more watched show with The Morning News.  Put Rick Gary (Bridge Street) back into the news, what was he doing a girly job for anyways?

I think it would a fun idea to hold a local contest to find the next Julie.  Let Syracuse decide who it should be and give that (local) person their "big" break.

Congratulations on the best decision of your life!  I made the same decision 12 years ago when my husband and I moved to Syracuse so that I could stay home and raise our boys, now 14 and 12.  I haven't regretted a moment of it.  It will be the hardest, most important and rewarding job you will ever have.

Your replacement will have some big shoes to fill...I think Jules Capsello would be fantastic.  Love her fashion segments and what stage presence!

I like the idea of a contest.  When Kathy Lee left Live, the show had a variety of celebrity co hosts and even held a viewer co-host contest.  Viewers sent in videos telling why they should fill in as Regis’ sidekick for a day.  A local spin on that would be fun!  Wouldn’t you love to co host with Rick?

Good luck Julie.  I’ve enjoyed you on the show many a mornings.  As a stay-at-home (and-loving-it) mom myself, sometimes I really needed someone to make me laugh.  You’ll be missed.  
   

Oh brother Dan. The show's supposed to be fun.  That's why there's "like" three hours of news and weather first.  News Channel 9 is my favorite local TV news and I love Christie and Carrie too.

I will miss Julie and glad Rick is still on.  Jules Capsello cannot replace Julie.  She is ok for 3 minute segments but that's it.  Not sure she has conquered the "mommy" thing yet.  She did put her career first!

I know that Jules made the same decision as Julie to stay home with her children when they were young.  She only returned to her career after her last child was off to school.  She remains very involved with her children and all of their activities...she is the definition of modern "mommy".

Julie, you will certainly be missed.  I read some of the other comments, and I can't believe someone had the nerve to refer to you as a "valley girl".  The show is suspose to be fun and that's what you and Rick offered every day, enjoyment and fun.  If the gentleman who wrote that remark wants sophistication, then he will have to keep watching the news.  There is to much "bad" going on in the news, and your show was up beat and light on news which was a good thing for an hour a day.  Good luck at home with the 3 boys, you have no idea what you are in for!  Been there, done that!  Hope you will find time to call in the show and let all the viewers know how you are doing.  Maybe WSYR will let you come back from time to time and do a show on stay at home moms, the real story!  

Julie will be very much missed.  She is the show.  After watching for the last several weeks it becomes clear where the life and energy of the show comes from. Rick is very well suited for the cooking segment, but does not appear to be a people person any longer.

There are those of us who like both Kelly Ripa AND Julie Abbott.  If you know so much about both of their situations, maybe you should be writing a column for one of the tabloids that always know what's happening in people's homes.  You don't have to watch the shows if you have such low opinions of the people on them.

How about Alison Megur?  Whatever happened to her?  She and Rick had great chemistry when Julie was out on Maternity Leave....I also think Megan Coleman, the Channel 3 news morning anchor, should be considered, too.

I first saw Julie doing a interview in Skaneateles before Hillary & Chelsea came to town. I'll miss you on Bridge Steet, but I'm glad Rick will be there. What about having locals fill in at times before a regular host is chosen? My friends say that I can talk to anyone, even strangers.

Dear "Concerned":  don't know where you get your information about Kathie Lee Gifford, but this morning, she was introduced on the Today Show as co-anchor for their fourth hour, beginning April 7th.  She looks terrific.  And so what if she sat around in her bathrobe?

I know, "LionFan1", what rotten timing......We don't hear a THING about Kathie Lee Gifford for the past five years, and TODAY she has to come out of the woodwork to be announced as the fourth hour "Today Show" co-anchor.....which of course absolutely RUINED by "ratty bathrobe and Cocoa Puffs" gag!

To those who don't consider "grandmas" proper co-hosts:  I am one, Rick is old enough to be a "grandpa" (sorry, Rick), and maybe your perception of grandparent-hood needs to be updated!  I don't think there's anyone on (or off) the air locally who's as spunky and cute as Julie.  She'll be hard to replace.

Julie, have fun with the boys, but you'll still have to share some of your craftiness from time to time! SHELBY STAFFORD should really be considered to sit next to Rick now. She's just as fresh and sweet as Julie. I vote for Shelby!!

Another option would be to not replace Julie with another female co-host, but rather to re-tool the show's format and have Rick host the show alone.  Make it a silly, free-wheeling morning show, kind of like the old "Don McNeill's Breakfast Club" or "Art Linkletter's House Party" shows.  You could have a live studio audience and a "gang" of regulars to assist Rick.  Frankly, I think that Rod Wood would make an excellent "Ed McMahon"-type straight man/second banana.

Rick could go out into the audience and have fun with the audience members, sit at the desk and interview guests and other fun stuff.  It would certainly be a fun way to spend the morning, and it would be something unique to local Syracuse television.

Hi Julie, I watch you and Rick everyday.  I have enjoyed you bubbly personality and will miss you alot.  You are the one that keeps Rick in line and on the right track.  You will be missed by all.  You are doing the right thing by being at home with your children and husband.   Have fun and enjoy the boys as they are growing up.
