Sick Kids

Are your kids sick, too? Wow...I can't wait until spring. It's amazing how we can function as parents on like, four interrupted hours of sleep. I have to admit I was eyeing that "banned" bottle of infant's Pediacare last night that I can't bring myself to throw out. (No I won't ever give it to any of the kids-- the FDA's new ruling warns against it for the littlest guys.) But I'll tell you, me and pediacare have great memories!  They say it doesn't really work for congestion anyway, but I swear it made them feel better...or maybe I felt better doing -something- for my little sick babies.  I bought the saline flush system I'm supposed to shove up my kids' nostrils to help...but I don't have the stamina to wrestle them down to do it. Spring can't come soon enough! (-:

My son attends pre-k. What more do I need to say! I believe that's the first real test of your child's immune system. Last week he had the stuffed up/coughing cold that is going around. I dug out the humidifier, vicks vapo-rub, Tylenol for toddlers and my soup pot. Of course 3 boxes of tissues later, he's fine. I was never big on store bought medications for children and I see the potential for some to misuse otc medications. Some feel it's otc so it must be safe. Also, some believe more is better. I feel TLC is the best remedy with plenty of liquids and rest. The same for grown-ups too!

I have five children - typically when one gets something - they all get something!  I did get rid of most of the children's cold medicines - I find that the natural saline sprays work for stuffy noses and a teaspoon of honey (for kids over 1) is great for sore throat and coughs - hopefully spring will get here soon!
